As both the star and executive producer, Cavill now has the creative control he reportedly lacked during his tenure on Netflix’s The Witcher.

With reports that he left the Netflix project due to differences in creative vision between him and a writing direction that took Geralt away from the lore, we can expect to have none of that here. Cavill is a lifelong Warhammer fan and will ensure that the project stays true to the lore of the franchise.

My incredible team and I, alongside the brilliant minds at Games Workshop, have been working away in concept rooms, breaking down approaches to the enormity and magnificence of the Warhammer world.

He goes on to further talk about the progress that’s been made throughout this time.

Together, we’ve been sifting through the plethora of incredible characters and poring over old tomes and texts. Our combined efforts have led us to a fantastic place to start our Universe, which has been agreed upon by those up on high at both Amazon and Games Workshop. 

The Warhammer 40K project signifies a fresh start for Cavill, one where his vision takes precedence. The agreement between Games Workshop and Amazon ensures creative guidelines are mutually respected. Cavill will not only star in the series but also serve as an executive producer, giving him the creative freedom to be accurate to the lore.

The Warhammer 40K cinematic universe will kick off with a TV series currently in development. A team of writers has been assembled to craft the initial storyline, though no showrunner has been announced. Fans shouldn’t expect immediate results though. Games Workshop noted in the official statement that “it’ll be some years“.
