Horizon Zero Dawn has just received a quiet update, available to download now.

Developed by Guerilla Games, the Horizon series is from the same studio that gave us Killzone. Speaking of which, an update from October this year suggests that we might not see Killzone again, but I’ll still maintain a glimmer of hope.

Horizon Zero Dawn was originally released on the PlayStation 4 in 2017 and introduced Aloy as one of Sony’s leading mascots. Even when being played on the PS4, Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the best-looking games you’ll ever have the privilege of playing.

Then in 2022, we received its critically acclaimed sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, and then its expansion the following year, Burning Shores. Not content with ending all the Horizon goodness there, this year we’ve been treated to LEGO Horizon Aventures and an impressive remaster of the 2017 game.

In our review of Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, we said: “You may not have thought it possible, but this version of Aloy’s world is even more beautiful, with Nixxes’ subtle attention to detail resulting in a space that feels even more immersive and brimming with life. When you can upgrade for just £10, there’s really no reason why you shouldn’t.”

The remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn is being handled by Nixxes Software rather than Guerrilla Games and the PC version of the game has just received Patch 1.3.

Responding to fan feedback, most notably with Patch 1.3, it adds Auto Pickup, which basically means Aloy picks up items in the world without the player having to press a button. Colour Blind Mode in the Accessibility Settings has also been introduced.

The patch also irons out reported bugs as well as fixing an issue related to the DualSense controller that prevented its rumble feature from working when connected via Bluetooth.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is out now on PC and PlayStation 5.
