For weeks, fans and characters within Agatha All Along could only speculate what happened to Harkness’ son — until now!
The whereabouts of Agatha’s son have been a mystery since WandaVision. Many had theorized that Nicholas Scratch would eventually appear alongside his mother in the series, but he never did. His inclusion never went beyond a reference to Agatha Harkness’ pet rabbit, Señor Scratchy.
However, in Agatha All Along, darker theories about Nicolas Scratch emerged, such as Harkness sacrificing her son for the Darkhold or, as one of the characters in the show proposed, becoming a servant of Mephisto. But the truth is far more tragic than fans ever expected.
Agatha’s Son, Made From Scratch
Disney+
Fans learned not only about Nicolas Scratch’s death in the Agatha All Along finale but also about his birth and how he got the nickname “Scratch.” In the comics, it was always an allusion to the Devil, “Old Scratch,” but it is revealed to have a far sweeter origin in Agatha All Along.
As Agatha was having a difficult birth in some winding woods, Death arrived to take her child, the implication being they would be stillborn. However, after Agatha pled with Death for the life of her child, she could only offer them “time.”
Given a chance at life, Agatha’s son was born, not through any spell or incantation, but “made from Scratch.” From then on, she and her son would wander, killing covens of witches for, as Agatha vaguely put it, “to survive.”
Witches Died So Nicholas Could Live
Disney+
While it is not explicitly stated in the Agatha finale, it is heavily implied that Agatha killed witches not just for survival or power but to placate Death so that her son could continue living his borrowed life. Unfortunately, the one time Nicholas neglected to help his mother kill witches, Death came for him.
Under the cover of darkness, Death arrived, whisking him away from Agatha, but not before the original Green Witch silently told Nicholas to kiss his mother goodbye. So, hand-in-hand, like an old friend or perhaps even a second mother, Death led Scratch to the afterlife, where he still waits for his mother, who fears his judgment.
