Sony has been releasing many of its major exclusive titles on PC for the past couple of years to open up a new revenue stream for the company. But, these releases have not been extremely successful, with the likes of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 failing to reach the heights of past ports.

Sony has still persisted with this strategy, however, with Rise of the Ronin being the latest game in the PlayStation family to get a PC port. But, from the looks of it, the RPG is the latest casualty of the PlayStation brand on Steam.

Rise of the Ronin launched to dismal numbers on Steam with only 7,965 concurrent players on the platform, failing to make an impact. The RPG also got negative reviews from fans with a dismal 39.27% rating and severe technical issues plaguing the engrossing title.

Rise of the Ronin was published as a Sony exclusive on PS5 last year, and Koei Tecmo worked on the PC port in 2025, but fans have complained about the file size and rather middling visuals compared to the PlayStation version.

Hence, players have been let down by the PC port, labelling Rise of the Ronin another underwhelming effort just like other exclusives on Steam. Shuhei Yoshida mentioned how PC ports of older games are like printing money, but Sony’s recent ventures on the platform do not reflect this statement.

Many critics have also questioned this strategy, saying the company can’t figure out its purpose anymore, while others have commended PlayStation, terming PC ports better for business.
