Fans should not be too quick to dismiss Ciri’s presence in the upcoming Witcher 4 since she has always played an important role in the game.
Some of The Witcher fans are disappointed with Geralt’s disappearance in the announcement trailer of The Witcher 4. Naturally, it seems like players are not completely satisfied with CD Projekt Red’s decision to make Ciri the protagonist in the upcoming title.

However, popular streamer Asmongold clarifies why it is not such a bad thing that the next game focuses on the adoptive daughter of Geralt and Yennefer. Most importantly, Ciri was featured as a playable character in The Witcher 3 as well, so he’s not entirely an abrupt inclusion.
The Witcher universe revolves around Ciri
Ciri has always played a central role in the game’s story as The Witcher 3’s story revolves around Geralt trying to save Ciri from The Wild Hunt, who wanted to use Ciri and her Elder Blood powers to open portals to a new world.
However, we will be playing with her being the main character for the first time in the upcoming The Witcher 4. There is still some confusion amongst fans regarding a woman becoming a Witcher since it has always been unheard of. However, the announcement trailer has got a positive response overall, and players are eagerly waiting for the game’s release.
However, criticism was also drawn towards Ciri’s appearance in the trailer. Some years have passed since the last game, and Ciri seems to be a grown-up woman now. However, some fans do not seem to be satisfied with how she looks and Asmongold feels that each individual is entitled to their opinion and has all the right to express how they feel. During his latest stream, he said:
If you want to not like the game because you don’t like Ciri, you think that she’s ugly, and you would rather it be Geralt again, that’s totally fine, and that opinion is totally valid.
Ciri cannot be compared to her past self as she has grown into a strong woman with a lot to offer in the upcoming game. The next game will explore Ciri’s Elder Blood powers to the fullest.
Players should be open-minded about the next game’s protagonist
Fans should not be too quick to judge the next game’s protagonist and conclude that she is not up to the standards set by Geralt of Rivia. It is a fresh game that will explore different things with a different protagonist. Keep in mind that The Witcher 3 was a great game that redefined the RPG landscape, so great things can be expected this time around as well.
On top of that, it is not fair to judge Ciri based on appearance and gender. She has proved time and time again why she is a suitable successor to Geralt. However, as Asmongold said, you sure are entitled to your own opinion, and you do not need to justify why you feel the way you do.
Having said that, indeed, people often don’t adapt well to change, and it might be a while before players finally accept Ciri as a new protagonist altogether. However, the announcement trailer revealed during The Game Awards sure sets a great tone for the game. What do you think about the next game’s protagonist? Let us know in the comments below.
