Sydney Sweeney is currently raging as one of the greatest and most stunning young talents in Hollywood’s entertainment industry, excelling at her acting chops across multiple genres most efficiently. For one who started around a decade and a half ago as a child actress, she has effortlessly climbed her way to the top following her star-studded breakthrough with Everything Sucks!
Soon enough after this, she scored her iconic role of Cassie in Euphoria, and the rest was history. But while she has been riding tremendous waves of fame and success ever since, Sweeney was willing to do anything just to become a part of one extremely dark series that also saw her co-starring alongside Man of Steel actress Amy Adams: Jean-Marc Vallée’s thriller, Sharp Objects.
Sydney Sweeney Was Willing to do Anything to Get Into Sharp Objects

[Director] Jean-Marc Vallée, hands down. I was beyond thrilled to be able to work with him, and when I saw that he was doing a project with Amy Adams and Patricia Clarkson, I was like, “I have to do this. Someone, please tell me there’s a role in this for me. I’ll audition for anything.”
But while her heartfelt desire to work with filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallée was one thing that made her interested in the project, it wasn’t the only one.
As it turns out, what further had her yearning to become a part of this show was Gillian Flynn’s involvement with it in the first place as the story’s mastermind author. Apparently, Sweeney had long been a fan of hers.

As Sweeney continued to say about the Amy Adams starrer masterpiece:
And then Gillian Flynn. I love Gone Girl, so bringing Sharp Objects to life, that was amazing.
Truly enough, the Anyone but You actress’ greatest wish and determination to work on the 2018 series most certainly paid off as she got cast in the role of Alice in it. But while getting in was one thing, Sweeney ensured that she also prepared to the best of her efficiency for her part, going to all the lengths she could just to deliver it right.

Continuing, Sweeney also confessed how she was drawn to her iconic role of Alice in the show because of her personality. Looking at it as a challenge she wanted to experience the thrills of, she took on the role of Camille’s roommate in her psychiatric ward who helped expand her music taste, even though [SPOILER ALERT] Alice goes on to die by suicide.
Talking about how she approached that role and prepared for it, she said:
With Alice, [I was drawn to her as] a troubled teenage girl. I did a lot of research on girls that cut themselves and struggle with depression to hopefully bring that to life. I like being able to have that challenge.
Effortlessly enough, Sydney Sweeney did the best of jobs while embodying the troubled teenager for the fan-favorite show, no matter how little screentime she was allowed for it. To say the least, the actress’ die-hard levels of commitment and determination are truly commendable—be it for scoring a role or embodying it!
You can stream Sharp Objects on Prime Video as of August 17, 2024.
