Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet seems to be the most hated video game trailer at the moment, largely due to its unimaginative narrative.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet might end up meeting the same end as Concord, largely due to its setting and central themes. Dabbling in science fiction set amidst the vast expanse of an endless void does not always do justice to the sci-fi genre, and there are multiple examples to vouch for it.

The sci-fi genre has reached a saturation point. Creators often end up relying heavily on common tropes without introducing anything fresh, and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet finds itself at the center of this criticism. As a result, it is currently the most hated announcement trailer out there.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet might be Trent Reznor’s only bad decision
There is no doubt about Trent Reznor’s musical excellence. He has composed scores for films like Challengers, Soul, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network—the list could go on and on. He is amazing at his craft; however, even his skills will not be enough to keep Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet afloat since it is going in a direction of self-sabotage.
The sci-fi genre is overcrowded, and it takes something extremely unique and innovative to attract the audience. On the other hand, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet seems to be working along the same old tropes of any other sci-fi game, featuring a bounty hunter stranded in the orbit of a distant planet, Sempiria in this instance, that has lost communication with the outside universe for over 100 years now.
The game does not seem to talk about anything new. It fails to give the audience an innovative narrative, loose from the shambles of sci-fi tropes.

The oversaturated sci-fi genre needs innovation to attract players. There have been a lot of failed attempts in this genre, the biggest one being Concord. It failed massively due to its inability to offer anything new to the players.
The announcement trailer fails to garner a positive response, largely due to a rather bland protagonist and Naughty Dog’s focus on marketing more than the rhythm of the trailer. The announcement trailer’s backlash on YouTube rose to the extent that Naughty Dog was forced to turn the comments section off.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet might face the same fate. The game follows the story of a bounty hunter, much like most of the sci-fi stories out there. It has been under development since 2020.
It does not reveal anything new or exciting that we have not seen before in a science fiction game. It is very difficult to nail a game in this genre, especially due to the rising expectations of players after the release of games and shows like The Expanse and Starfield.
