Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Promises Epic Fun Like Elden Ring with Unmatched Player Freedom!

Intergalactic main character stood in her bedroom MinnMax’s Ben Hanson has finally confirmed that Elden Ring is the game that he previously teased that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is similar to in terms of player freedom.

2024’s The Game Awards might not have had Hollow Knight: Silksong, Half-Life 3, and GTA 6 like so many of us hoped for when the rumours started flying that it was a “holy s**t” showcase, but it was still a big night for reveals. The Witcher 4 and Elden Ring Nightreign instantly jump to mind, but undeniably the biggest unveiling was for Naughty Dog’s next game.

Despite previous rumours that Naughty Dog was working on a fantasy game, the reveal at The Game Awards confirmed it’s actually a sci-fi adventure called Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Even with that first trailer, there’s not that much to say about the game so far beyond its setting and focus on religion, although there’s been one lingering mystery.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Is Reportedly Similar To Elden Ring Due To Its Player Freedom

That mystery dates all the way back to October of last year, when MinnMax’s Ben Hanson shared a “juicy tidbit” about Naughty Dog’s at-the-time unrevealed game. Hanson said that he’d heard that the title would have a lot of “player freedom” and was similar in structure to a certain game, but didn’t go as far as confirming what game he was referencing.k/.

At the time, many guessed that Hanson was either referring to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or Elden Ring, and he’s finally confirmed what he was teasing during the most recent episode of The MinnMax Show. When asked by a community member what he previously meant, Hanson revealed that the game is indeed Elden Ring.

I think it’s fine to say it now, that game was Elden Ring that it was compared to back then. If I would have said ‘Naughty Dog’s next game is like Elden Ring’ and then that reveal trailer came out, I feel like we would have been lit on fire. – Ben Hanson

Hanson notes that he didn’t want to say it at the time because the expectations would have caused a lot of backlash when the reveal trailer eventually was shared. He also says that now we know it’s set on a single planet and the player is focused on finding out what happened, we can kind of see where Naughty Dog is going with it and why the Elden Ring comparisons have been made.
