Johnny Depp has already put the lawsuit behind him despite the horrors that unfolded when Amber Heard’s accusations came out.
Johnny Depp faced a lot of struggle after his ex-wife Amber Heard slammed him with emotional and physical abuse accusations in 2016. The Pirates of the Caribbean star had to face the nightmare of losing a role in a movie he was tied to at the time, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Heard’s accusations also severely damaged his reputation in the industry, which was honestly expected considering the severity of the claims that were made. Not only did he lose his role in the Harry Potter spinoff film series, but was also dropped by Pirates of the Caribbean as well.

Ultimately, it pushed Depp to file a defamation lawsuit against Heard. The high-profile case occurred two years after their split and a few months following Heard’s infamous 2018 Washington Post op-ed. Though the trial spilled all the beans on what happened during their relationship, including their personal struggles, Depp has since chosen to look at things on the brighter side.

The Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation lawsuit was highly publicized, and many details regarding the two stars’ lives were revealed to the entire world. It was in 2022 that Depp had his hand raised in victory, walking away with a clean slate.
However, the 61-year-old initially couldn’t wrap his head around why he had to face such an ordeal. While speaking to Rolling Stone, Depp claimed all he tried to be was kind and truthful, which is why the issues that arose didn’t make sense to him.
When the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory actor had the case ruled in his favor, Heard was ordered to pay him $15 million, but he chose to settle with his ex-wife outside of court. Two years later, Depp confessed he isn’t upset over anything that went down and that everything happens for a reason (via The Hollywood Reporter).
I learned, man. Everything that we experience, whether you’re given a snow cone or walking your dog, you learn something somewhere along the way. So I don’t have any ill feelings toward anyone. I don’t have this great reserve of hatred, because hatred requires caring. Why carry that baggage?
Heard was eventually asked to pay a sum of $1 million which Depp happily donated to charity. For Depp, this case was more than just settling the score with Heard. It was an attempt to clear his name and redeem himself from the damage the accusations had caused. Now, he has come to terms with it and moved on.

While the damage Amber Heard’s accusations caused was quite life-altering, the Aquaman star claimed that her intentions weren’t to ruin Johnny Depp’s career. Heard mentioned wanting to speak up not only for herself but also for other victims of domestic abuse.
During an interview with NBC News, Heard stated that she felt the lawsuit’s only purpose was to silence her. But either way, she also claims she’s come to terms with the things that came crashing down a few years ago.
I’m scared that no matter what I do, no matter what I say, or how I say it, every step that I take will present another opportunity for this sort of, silencing, which is what, I guess, a defamation lawsuit is meant to do. It’s meant to take your voice… I have no bad feelings or ill will toward him at all.
The Pineapple Express actress claimed that she loves Depp dearly and tried the best she could “to make a deeply broken relationship work,” but failed. Since the trial, Heard has only appeared in two projects, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and In The Fire, in which she was also an executive producer.
