Acting isn’t all just Shakespeare and crying on cue. Sometimes real sacrifices have to be made. Just look at Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, stars of the new Netflix rom com series Nobody Wants This. For the sake of their craft, they had to film a scene surrounded by dildos and other sex paraphernalia.

Tough. But luckily, the pair had some previous experience filming with silicone penii just laying about, thanks to their brief time together on House of Lies.

Nobody Wants This

In one scene from Nobody Wants This, which follows the unlikely relationship between an outspoken, agnostic woman and an unconventional rabbi, Joanne (Bell) and Noah (Brody) spend some quality time together in a sex shop.

“That was a stimulating day,” Bell tells Entertainment Weekly in the video above.

“I was overstimulated for at least the first half,” Brody adds, with Bell noting that this was the second time they had shot, as Brody so eloquently puts it, “amongst a bunch of dildos.”

“Correct,” Bell says, “And I don’t know of any other actors that can say that.”

Back in 2013, Brody had a three-episode arc on Showtime’s House of Lies as Nate Hyatt, head of an adult toy company, who proves an unlikely suitor (we sense a pattern) for Bell’s character, consultant Jeannie van der Hooven. They shot a scene in a dildo factory, which was relatively next level compared to a tasteful little erotic boutique.

“As cool as a sex store is, when you see how the sausage is made, that’s a whole other experience,” Brody notes.

“That was a day filled with questions for me,” Bell admits. “There was so much to look at and try to understand and I felt a bit out of touch but I wanted everything to be explained to me. So I had a lot of questions.”

In the spirit of An Actor Prepares, Bell and Brody presumably brought their hard-won dildo knowledge to their sex shop scene some 12 years later for Nobody Want This, which premieres Sept. 26 on Netflix.
