The Lord of the Rings never featured a villain like this before, but The Rings of Power establishes the franchise’s Joffrey Baratheon. Season 2 highlights a character who’s similar to Joffrey in terms of personality, and he’s also likely to meet a tragic and early end. This demise is one that viewers will probably root for, especially after his actions in The Rings of Power season 2, episode 5.
The Rings Of Power’s Kemen Feels A Lot Like LOTR’s Version Of Joffrey From Game Of Thrones
Ar-Pharazôn’s Son Is Cowardly & Misuses His Power
The Rings of Power season 2 focuses more on Ar-Pharazôn’s son, Kemen, and the character feels a lot like Joffrey from Game of Thrones. For one, he misuses his influence over the people of Númenor, seemingly taking pleasure in wrestling power away from characters like Míriel and Elendil. Kemen even brings soldiers to remove the Faithful from their place of worship, resulting in a tragic and violet confrontation. During this scene, Kemen kills Valandil by stabbing him in the back — even after Valandil disarms him and spares his life.
Kemen cowardly stabbing Valandil in the back feels like something Joffrey Baratheon would do, especially since he was whimpering on the floor just moments earlier. Even that image feels reminiscent of Joffrey, who finds himself in a similar position when Arya Stark’s direwolf attacks him in Game of Thrones season 1. Instead of being grateful for being spared, he also uses his power to harm the innocent — in this case, Sansa’s direwolf, Lady, and Micah, the Butcher’s Boy. Kemen’s behavior feels all too familiar, and it’s likely to earn him a similar end to Joffrey’s.
The Rings Of Power Hints Kemen’s Fate Will Mirror Joffrey’s
His Story Will End Tragically, Just Like The Game Of Thrones Villain’s
Unsurprisingly, Joffrey meets a tragic and early end in Game of Thrones: he’s poisoned at his own wedding feast. Kemen’s fate is likely to mirror Joffrey’s, as Ar-Pharazôn reveals that his mother had a dark vision about him. Pharazôn doesn’t get into specifics, but this could be related to the Fall of Númenor. Pharazôn and Kemen will be involved in bringing about the kingdom’s demise, so it won’t surprise anyone if they both perish alongside it.
Pharazôn’s son seems like a good candidate to receive a Ring of Power, and with his attraction to power, there’s little doubt it would turn him into a Nazgûl .
Of course, Kemen could meet a fate worse than death in The Rings of Power‘s future seasons. It seems possible Pharazôn’s son could receive a Ring of Power, and with his attraction to power, there’s little doubt it would turn him into a Nazgûl. After Theo, Kemen is one of the biggest Nazgûl candidates in The Rings of Power — though viewers will be a lot less sorry to see him suffer such a fate.
