Star Wars: The Acolyte is the latest installment in the Star Wars franchise, but it has been canceled by Disney after just 8 episodes. The decision came as no surprise to many, given the show’s high production costs and apparent lack of quality. It was criticized for logical inconsistencies, poor writing, subpar acting, and overall pacing issues.

Most importantly for Disney, the show struggled with low viewership, which contributed to its cancellation. Despite some negative online reactions, industry insiders confirm that the primary reason for the cancellation was the show’s inability to attract a sufficient audience.

One of the standout elements of the show was its secondary villain, Qimir. Initially introduced as Mae’s enigmatic and somewhat bumbling friend, it quickly became apparent that he was the Sith Lord training her. Despite this early reveal, Qimir’s role was compelling.

As a Sith Lord, Qimir demonstrated his ruthlessness by eliminating nearly all the Jedi on Khofar who obstructed his path to freedom. He wielded a unique, never-before-seen weapon and wore a helmet made of Cortosis, a nod to the Expanded Universe.

Qimir was a significant reason why fans were eager for a second season, especially after the final episode hinted at his training under Darth Plagueis, the ancient Sith Lord known for mentoring Palpatine (Darth Sidious).

Recently, Manny Jacinto, the actor who portrayed Qimir, shared his aspirations during the Dragon Con panel. When asked about his life goal, Jacinto revealed that it is to see a second season of The Acolyte. His answer was met with enthusiastic applause and cheers.

Despite the show’s cancellation, a fan petition on Change.org to renew The Acolyte has gained considerable traction, amassing over 66,000 signatures. While fan petitions have succeeded in the past, the high production costs of The Acolyte make it unlikely to reverse the decision.

Conversely, a petition to de-canonize The Acolyte and remove Qimir’s Sith Lord character from the official canon is also gaining momentum, with more than 18,000 signatures.
