Margot Robbie Says the Fully N*de Scene in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ Was Her Idea

Margot Robbie, the highest-paid actress of 2023 and a three-time Oscar nominee, became a star after her standout performance as Naomi in Martin Scorsese’s 2013 hit The Wolf of Wall Street.

Over a decade later, Margot reflected on her experience working with Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio. She opened up about her role as Naomi Lapaglia, her famous nude scene, and a surprising moment during her audition.

While discussing her comfort with nudity on set, Margot revealed what scared her most during the audition. She admitted to boldly changing the script and improvising a scene with DiCaprio, worrying it could even get her into legal trouble.

Scorsese had offered her the option to wear a robe during the scene for added comfort, but Margot decided to go fully nude for the iconic moment where Naomi seduces stockbroker Jordan Belfort.

That’s not what she would do in that scene. The whole point is that she’s going to come out completely naked—that’s the card she’s playing.

Margot Robbie revealed that Martin Scorsese offered her the option of partial nudity to make her more comfortable, but she chose to go fully nude instead. Reflecting on the memorable scene where her character, Naomi, seduces Jordan Belfort (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), she also shared an unexpected story from her audition.

During her final audition, Robbie didn’t shy away, even with Hollywood heavyweights like Scorsese and DiCaprio in the room. Instead of sticking to the script and kissing DiCaprio, she made the daring choice to slap him.

I thought, I could kiss Leonardo DiCaprio right now, and that would be awesome. I can’t wait to tell all of my friends this. And then I thought… nah. And just walloped him in the face.

It was dead silence for what felt like an eternity but was probably three seconds. Then they just burst out laughing. Leo and Marty were laughing so hard, they said ‘that was great.’ I was thinking, I’m going to get arrested, I’m pretty sure that’s assault, battery.

‘Not only will you never work again, actually you will go to jail for this, you idiot. And also why did you have to hit him so hard? You should have done it lighter.’

Margot Robbie revealed that she trusted her instincts and improvised the scene, even though she feared it could get her in trouble, feeling it might come across as assault. Despite her concerns, both Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio applauded her bold choice, securing her the role in the Oscar-nominated 2013 film.
