Tom Glynn-Carney agreed with Smith’s complaint about this “hard” part of playing a Targaryen

Matt Smith knows he’s lucky to be a Targaryen — but it’s not without its challenges.

During a New York Comic Con panel with his House of the Dragon costars Tom Glynn-Carney and Fabien Frankel on Sunday, Oct. 20, Smith (who plays Daemon Targaryen in the Game of Thrones prequel series) revealed the surprising detail that’s become arguably the hardest part of working on the show.

“The wigs are hard,” Smith, 41, admitted, and Glynn-Carney, who plays Aegon, agreed, naming the “wigs, the bald caps [and] the pins” required for the signature platinum Targaryen hair among the challenges.

What’s worse is that Smith has learned there’s potentially a better way for him to transform into Daemon.

Smith said he’s been asking around on set of Caught Stealing, which he’s been filming in New York City with Austin Butler, and he’s learned a thing or two about wigs.

“I’ve been talking to the makeup people there, going, ‘Is there a way around it?’ And they’re like, ‘There is.'”

Glynn-Carney, 29, was shocked to hear that, and Smith seemed fired up, too, as he joked, “I’m going back armed, man. I’ll tell you.”

Frankel teased that Smith is “halfway there now,” since he’s rocking a nearly bald look for Caught Stealing, where he dons a can’t-miss colorful mullet, and that seemed to give the actor an idea.

“Oh, I’m just gonna shave my head,” Smith said, as Frankel, 30, who plays Ser Criston Cole, admitted, “That’s what I did.”

“I can’t go through it again,” Smith lamented. “I can’t. It killed me. Sorry — these are champagne problems, aren’t they?”

The Comic-Con panel also saw the stars talk about the show’s third season, as Smith admitted he’s “not heard hide nor hair” about what’s to come following the explosive season 2 finale that aired on Aug. 4.

Glynn-Carney agreed, saying he’s seen “not a jot, not a letter,” before he joked, “The longer they take… We don’t have to read anything for a while.”

Frankel, though, teased, “I’ve heard some things that I couldn’t possibly share here.”
