Two years from now will see Marvel fans finally being reunited with the Avengers but with a new lineup on the cards, the debate has begun as to which hero should take the lead.
It has been five long years since Avengers: Endgame came, saw and conquered the global box office – and with the Infinity tale of our Avengers coming to a close, it made sense for the movie series to go on hiatus.
However, May 2026 will see the gang of superheroes return in Avengers: Doomsday but to celebrate the start of Marvel’s Phase Six, we can expect a bunch of new faces forming the defenders of Earth.
We already know that the Russo brothers will be returning to direct Doomsday and we also know that Robert Downey Jr. will be taking on the role of Doctor Doom as opposed to Iron Man/Tony Stark.
Our brand-new Fantastic Four, kicking off with The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July next year, are also said to make an appearance.
However, what we don’t know is who will be replacing the likes of Tony Stark and Steve Rogers as leaders of the Avengers.
All of these characters could indeed appear in Avengers: Doomsday but whether they will become members of the team remains speculative for now.
However, that did not stop fellow Marvel fans from coming forward with their own ideas of the perfect lineup.
“Also hoping for Spider-Man, it’s been too long since we’ve seen him and the Avengers are short on members,” the top comment read.
Another fan wasn’t so sure about Loki’s involvement: “Loki definitely isn’t. That would mean his show actually meant something. First four names on the poster: Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Tom Holland. Pedro [Pascal] would be in there if Thor or Hulk isn’t. RDJ gets the ‘And’ credit.”
Avengers: Doomsday is expected to hit cinemas on 1 May 2026 with Avengers: Secret Wars following on 7 May, 2027.
