Thor: Love and Thunder is by no means an abysmal film.

In fact, I enjoyed it a lot despite its faults, but it’s clear that director Taika Waititi has run his course with the character.

That’s nothing to be ashamed of; it’s just simply time to innovate again.

Kenneth Branagh introduced a petulant, brooding take on Thor, before Waititi dropped the stoic baggage in favour of comedy and frivolity.

It was refreshing, but just as there was only so much we could take of Branagh’s version of the character, so too has Waititi’s had its day.

It would be nice to see the franchise’s next director perhaps find a happy medium.

Chris Hemsworth is so good at comedy that it would be a shame to drop that facet of the character, but I would like to see Thor challenged beyond having his clothes yoinked away by Zeus.

It does appear that Thor 5 may be in the works.

Although not officially revealed by Marvel, Hemsworth has made reference to the film.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, it’s said that the actor expressed that he may “owe” the audience another film after “what felt like a whiff” with Love and Thunder, although I should state that those are the magazine’s words, not Hemsworth’s own.

Even still, Marvel fans are enthused.

“Man, he really cares about his character and the fans. What a chad. Honestly I don’t mind if Thor gets like another three movies. I want Hemsworth to play Thor as much as he can,” Reddit user Ok-Reporter-8728 remarked.

“I’m on board with this take. Especially after these comments from him. He seems to know how to course correct Thor. I’d love for him to play Thor as much as he wants to,” added ShenaniganCity.

“I would love to see a story of him as Thor in the spirit of Conan the Barbarian (‘82). Raw, vulnerable, epic,” suggested MonitorAway, which sounds pretty compelling.

It’ll be interesting to see who’s brought on as the series’ new director.

I know George Miller’s name has been thrown around, but would the auteur let himself be confined by the MCU’s requirements?
