Netflix Has Resolved Your 3 Biggest Wednesday Concerns Heading Into Season 2

After the success of the show’s first season, there’s a lot of excitement surrounding Wednesday season 2 — and while there are also some concerns, Netflix has already resolved three of the biggestWednesday was greeted with a significant amount of praise after its 2022 premiere, with viewers even dubbing it the next Stranger Things. There’s little doubt Wednesday is one of Netflix’s biggest wins in recent years, and its sophomore season could cement it as one of the streamer’s best original series. That’s assuming it’s handled well.

Wednesday season 1 wasn’t without criticisms, and the series will need to address those if it hopes to grow its following during and beyond season 2. Fortunately, it seems as though Netflix is listening to its viewers when it comes to the next batch of episodes. Although Wednesday season 2’s release date is still a mystery, updates from the cast and crew suggest that the biggest concerns about the coming episodes have already been dealt with. With that in mind, Jenna Ortega’s next adventure as Wednesday Addams should be even better than the first.

Jenna Ortega Has Hinted Wednesday Season 2 Won’t Have A Love Triangle

The Love Triangle Between Wednesday, Tyler, & Xavier Was Heavily Criticized

Wednesday season 1 set up a love triangle between its titular lead and two of her classmates at Nevermore Academy: Tyler and Xavier. The Netflix series’ focus on romance was met with skepticism from viewers, and even Ortega didn’t like Wednesday’s love triangle. It seemed difficult to believe that the standoffish Wednesday Addams would willingly become romantically involved with anyone, much less two students at her school. While some preferred Ortega’s character with Enid, others outright questioned whether Wednesday would be interested in love at all.

This will come as a relief to fans concerned about the second season continuing the rivalry between Tyler and Xavier. It also promises a greater focus on other elements of the show.

Fortunately, it sounds like Wednesday season 2 will do away with the love triangle set up in previous episodes. Ortega teased Wednesday‘s next outing during an Actors on Actors conversation with Variety, and they admitted that the series is “ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday.” This will come as a relief to fans concerned that the second season would continue the rivalry between Tyler and Xavier. It also promises a greater focus on other elements of the show. Given that the romance is one of the least interesting aspects of Wednesday, that’s great news.

Wednesday Season 2 Will Have Way More Horror Compared To Season 1

The Netflix Series Can Improve On Its Original Batch Of Episodes

In addition to decreasing the show’s focus on romance, Wednesday season 2 will ramp up the horror elements of the story. This is another thing Ortega teased during their Actors on Actors segment, as they admitted that the creatives behind the series “want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more.” While the campy, playful approach of Wednesday season 1 shouldn’t be done away with completely, increasing the horror will help improve upon the first outing. Things that should have been scary — like Tyler’s Hyde transformation — simply didn’t have the impact they needed to.

It appears Wednesday is taking a similar approach to Stranger Things in this regard, pushing further into the horror category as time goes on.

This raised concerns about whether Wednesday season 2 would continue this trend, but Ortega’s words allow fans to breathe easy ahead of the new episodes. It appears Wednesday is taking a similar approach to Stranger Things in this regard, pushing further into the horror category as time goes on. With the characters growing up as the series continues, this trajectory makes sense. Hopefully, Wednesday season 2 doesn’t disappoint when it comes to this element. Things are looking positive on the horror front so far.

Wednesday Season 2 Has Cast Another Addams Family Member

Wednesday’s Immediate Family Will Also Show Up Again

The final concern Wednesday season 2 will address is the lack of Addams Family characters in the Netflix series. While Ortega’s Wednesday is center stage during season 1, the rest of the Addams Family doesn’t get a ton of screen time. Morticia and Gomez have a strong presence throughout Wednesday’s arc, and both Pugsley and Uncle Fester make appearances. However, all of these characters deserve more attention. Fortunately, Wednesday showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar told TVLine that they have plans to “feature the family” some more, even as they keep Wednesday as the primary focus.

Additionally, the cast of Wednesday confirmed that another Addams Family member will make their debut in season 2 during a video for Netflix’s TUDUM. They couldn’t reveal who it will be, though Cousin Itt and Grandmama are strong contenders. Whoever it is, they’ll help place Wednesday more firmly in the Addams Family canon. This will alleviate any fears of the Netflix series venturing too far away from the franchise that spawned it. Plus, it will lead to more shenanigans and Easter Eggs that Addams Family fans will no doubt appreciate.
