Netflix’s “Wednesday” Begins Production on Season 2 with Jenna Ortega, Steve Buscemi: ‘More Torture Awaits’

The series started filming in Ireland and revealed returning and new faces for its second season, including Christopher Lloyd and Haley Joel Osment

The cast of Wednesday is coming back to Nevermore Academy.

The hit Netflix show officially began production in Ireland, and the streaming service dropped a spooky cast reveal on Tuesday, May 7, that sees Thing, the Addams family’s treasured disembodied hand, delivering scripts to old and new members of the series.

“Hello, Thing. More torture awaits,” says Jenna Ortega, who stars as the titular Wednesday Addams.

Ortega, 21, is joined by returning cast members Joy Sunday, Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Moosa Mostafa, Victor Dorobantu, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez and Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo. Wednesday will also add Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter and Noah Taylor as series regulars.

Guest stars include Joanna Lumley, Thandiwe Newton, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, Joonas Suotamo and Christopher Lloyd, who played Uncle Fester in 1991’s The Addams Family.

“We are thrilled that the entire Addams family will be enrolling in Nevermore Academy this season along with a dream cast of icons and new faces,” showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar said in a statement.

Gough and Millar confirmed the mystery series was renewed for a second season in June 2023 on Netflix’s Tudum.

“It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world,” the creators said in a statement. “We can’t wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”

Tim Burton serves as one of the show’s directors and executive producers. Starting with season 2, Ortega will step into an additional role as executive producer. The star previewed what viewers could expect from Wednesday season 2 in Variety’s Actors on Actors series last year, discussing how the show will lean away from romance and “into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more.”

“We’re ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great,” the Emmy nominee said.
