HBO’s latest venture into the universe of Dune with the upcoming series ‘Dune: Prophecy’ seems to be channeling a cosmic version of ‘Game of Thrones’.
The new clip from the show has ignited conversations among fans, drawing comparisons to memorable dynamics like those seen in early ‘Game of Thrones’ episodes, reminiscent of the sharp exchanges between Olenna Tyrell and Cersei Lannister.
Slated for a November 17, 2024 premiere, ‘Dune: Prophecy’ is a six-episode series that acts as a prequel to Denis Villeneuve’s ongoing Dune film trilogy.

Developed by Diane Ademu-John and Alison Schapker, this series is inspired by the 2012 novel ‘Sisterhood of Dune’ by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.
It sets its story 10,000 years prior to Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides, focusing on the rise of the Bene Gesserit.
The ensemble cast features Emily Watson and Olivia Williams as the Harkonnen sisters, Valya and Tula, with Jodhi May playing Empress Natalya. Other key roles include Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Aoife Hinds, and Jade Anouka, each bringing depth to this richly woven narrative.
Emily Watson’s portrayal of Valya is especially intriguing. She describes her character as a challenging mother figure, one who prepares her charges for survival in tough conditions. ‘It’s about survival, preparing them for what’s to come,’ she explains.
Mark Strong and Travis Fimmel also star, adding to the robust lineup with Strong portraying Emperor Javicco Corrino and Fimmel as Desmond Hart.
Showrunner Alison Schapker shares insights into the narrative structure, revealing that the story spans multiple timelines, focusing on Valya Harkonnen’s ascent within the Sisterhood and exploring her origins. ‘We’re telling a story over multiple time periods… And that’s our present-day story taking place,’ she tells IGN.
As the show takes viewers on a journey through the intricate politics and formidable challenges faced by the Harkonnen sisters, it promises to forge a saga about the pivotal figures who will eventually establish the legendary Bene Gesserit.
