Rafe-from-Outer-BanksOuter Banks is finally letting Rafe Cameron redeem himself with the Pogues after three seasons of being a thorn in their side. Season 4 of the Netflix treasure hunting show Outer Banks follows its main characters, the Pogues as they search for the notorious pirate Blackbeard’s treasure, the Blue Crown, while racing against Chandler Groff and a vicious group of treasure hunters called the Lupine Corsairs. Unlike the situation in prior storylines, this adventure saw them working with rather than against Rafe.

From Outer Banks season 1, when Rafe killed sheriff Peterkin and helped his father, Ward, frame John B, he became one of the Pogue’s biggest antagonists. He continued his role as a villain throughout season 2 and 3, as well by stealing Denmark Tanny’s cross to melt it down and shooting his sister, Sarah. Though Rafe seemed to think that his actions were always aimed at helping his family, he consistently ended up hurting the Pogues. However, by the end of Outer Banks season 4, part 2 Rafe changes his actions as he finally decides to make amends with Sarah and help the Pogues.

By the end of Outer Banks season 4, part 1, it is clear that Rafe is getting tired of the Kooks versus Pogues narrative as he is happily in a relationship with a Pogue, Sofia, and wants to make up with Sarah. While at first he is reluctant to rekindle the relationship, Rafe ultimately decides that keeping the sibling bond with Sarah is more important than his ego. Then, in Outer Banks season 4, part 2, Rafe finally begins to get redemption for his past actions.

While the group is still wary of his motives, Rafe essentially joins the Pogues in the second half of season 4 and starts working to fix his relationship with Sarah. He fights against Chandler Groff alongside the Pogues, and he convinces them to get revenge for JJ’s death. Even though Rafe did a lot of horrible things in Outer Banks‘ previous seasons, this is the closest that audiences have seen him come to being a part of the Pogues group, and it goes a long way in raising much-needed sympathy for him.

What Rafe’s Redemption Means For The Cameron Family In Outer Banks Season 5

They Have A Chance To Start Again

Outer Banks‘ primary themes often have to do with its characters’ relationships with their family and friends, so Rafe’s redemption arc could spell a change in the Cameron family dynamics in season 5. Rafe spent a lot of time and energy in previous seasons trying to prove himself to his father and, later, trying to move past his family’s legacy. At the end of Outer Banks season 4, Rafe will be able to move in a new direction. This could also give Outer Banks a reason to bring back Wheezie, who was missing throughout season 4, to reunite all the Cameron siblings.

By rekindling Sarah and Rafe’s relationship, season 5 can cement this new family dynamic and allow Rafe to be present in Sarah’s life as well as her baby’s.

Another factor that could assist in unifying the Cameron family is Rafe’s role as an uncle. By rekindling Sarah and Rafe’s relationship, season 5 can cement this new family dynamic and allow Rafe to be present in Sarah’s life as well as her baby’s. Whatever direction Outer Banks season 5 decides to go in, one thing is certain: things will change greatly for the Cameron family when they return to the Outer Banks, giving them the chance to be closer than ever before.
