Season 4 of Outer Banks just premiered its first half on Netflix on Oct. 10, and the second batch of episodes will premiere on Nov. 7. To promote the release, CBR’s Kevin Polowy discussed Outer Banks with cast members Chase Stokes (John B. Routledge), Rudy Pankow (JJ Maybank), and Drew Starkey (Rafe Cameron). The trio was asked about how far removed they are from their characters in reality, and none of them felt they had too much in common with who they play. That may be especially so with Cameron.
“[Rafe] and I share a lot of qualities,” Starkey said initially. “No, I’d say everything, in a way… not at all. I don’t think so. I don’t know.”
“You definitely have no murders on your rap sheet,” Stokes told Starkey.
“That’s true, yeah, no murders,” Starkey responded. “I’m typically a calm person. Pretty much the opposite [of Rafe].”

“I would say I think more than JJ,” Pankow then said about his character. “I’m more in my head. JJ’s philosophy is, ‘What good does thinking do when you can just act on it?‘ He’s a man of… he’s a, what’s the word I’m looking for? He’s proactive. He’s a proactive person.”
Stokes similarly finds John B. as much more “impulsive” than himself in real life. The actor also called his character “pretty selfish,” going on to stress how they really don’t share too much in common. To that point, Stokes hinted that they might sport the same footwear, but that’s where the similarities end.
Chase Stokes Isn’t as Impulsive as John B.
“I think with John B, he’s just a little bit impulsive, and he’s pretty selfish, and I like to think that I’m a pretty selfless person,” he said. “I definitely am an overthinker versus just an impulsive person. So, I don’t think I share too much in common with him. Maybe shoes. I would share shoes with John B.”
The series was created by Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke. It also stars Madelyn Cline (Sarah Cameron), Madison Bailey (Kie Carrera), Jonathan Daviss (Pope Heyward), Austin North (Topper), Carlacia Grant (Cleo), Fiona Palomo (Sofia), and Cullen Moss (Deputy Shoupe).
Outer Banks is streaming on Netflix, with the second half of Season 4 set to drop on Nov. 7, 2024.
