I’m running on so little sleep that I had to make sure that last night’s The Game Awards wasn’t a fever dream, but it wasn’t.
Geoff Keighley has taken some criticism in recent years but it’s clearly criticism he’s taken on board, highlighting the industry’s issues, providing winners with ample time to speak, whilst showcasing some stellar upcoming games.
The Witcher 4 unveiled its first trailer which, I’ll be honest, I didn’t anticipate for a couple of years.
Naughty Dog surfaced with a brand new IP, a 1980s sci-fi titled Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, while FromSoft announced yet another Elden Ring title.
It feels like one of those too good to be true wishlists, but these are all confirmed projects.
Hidden between the major AAAs was a fun little multiplayer title that I think could prove to be a cult hit.
It struck me as Phasmophobia with guns, so allow me to introduce you to Midnight Murder Club.
Midnight Murder Club is a multiplayer first-person shooter that’ll see you and a group of friends attempt to survive a night in a deadly mansion, but that mansion is filled with “traps, weapons, and other surprises”.
Of course, it’s pitch dark in there, so you’ll have to be extra careful avoiding those traps – and you never know who might be standing over your shoulder.
It looks hilarious. You can imagine the scenes … your friend going down, the rest of you firing your guns in the dark hoping to hit the unknown assailant.
Of course, Midnight Murder Club looks to have its fair share of spooks, but the kind that should make for a great laugh.
And while it’s not due out until February 2025, where it’ll launch on Steam and PlayStation 5, you can play the game for free now by hopping into its open beta.
Simply jump on over to the game’s website, press ‘play now’, select your preferred platform and you’ll be directed to the relevant game download to get involved.
