Agatha All Along premiered shortly after The Acolyte, which failed spectacularly, largely due to its quality issues and a strong backlash against its DEI themes.

Many fans of the MCU feared that Agatha All Along would face a similar fate. The MCU has been struggling lately, and it seemed that the show had all the elements for another review-bombing campaign.

Think about it. The show centers on a lesser-known character that many people aren’t particularly invested in, and it features magic and witchcraft with an almost entirely female cast. The only male actor is a somewhat flamboyant gay character.

Despite this, the expected backlash didn’t materialize. There were a few attempts to review-bomb the show, mainly on IMDb, but it seemed that even the critics didn’t care enough about Agatha All Along to go through with it.

However, the viewership numbers told a different story.

Agatha All Along attracted 9.3 million views on Disney+ within its first seven days of streaming. While this is lower than The Acolyte, Marvel Exec Brad Winderbaum shared an interesting fact: Agatha All Along had the highest continuation rate of any MCU show to date.

This means it had the highest number of returning viewers week after week, which is a great sign that the show attracted fans and kept them engaged. Last week, Nielsen ratings surprised us by placing Agatha All Along in the 8th spot on the “originals” chart.

In contrast, Max’s The Penguin, which is being hailed as the best superhero show ever, didn’t make the list—likely due to other factors, for example, because it only released one episode.

After an amazing and visually stunning episode 7, Deadline reports that the show attracted an impressive 4.2 million viewers within just one day, marking a 35% increase from the premiere episode’s numbers!

This indicates that while Agatha All Along might not be the most straightforward hit in the MCU—like Deadpool and Wolverine—it is still a success, at least within its target audience.

The best part? Agatha All Along is the cheapest MCU production to date. The show primarily uses practical effects, which means the bar for being “profitable” is much lower compared to series like She-Hulk and Secret Invasion.

With two more episodes still to come, I have no doubt that they will break records as well.
