Fans are divided as to whether we should get Red Dead Redemption 3 and we understand why some have concerns.
For many, Red Dead Redemption is amongst the greatest video game franchises of all time, alongside Rockstar Games’ other big property, Grand Theft Auto. To be honest, you could ask me which series I prefer and I’d probably give a different answer depending on the day.
Red Dead Redemption 2 was released in 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (2019 on PC), a prequel to the first game that initially launched in 2010 starring John Marston. In the prequel, we play Arthur Morgan, a trusted member of the infamous Dutch van der Linde gang, the antagonist of the 2010 title.
I won’t give too much away but in my opinion, both Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2 tied things up perfectly. However, when a story ends so well, it then becomes a gruelling task to create a sequel that justifies its existence.
Of course, we could have a new protagonist not directly associated with the first two games. What’s more, with Red Dead Redemption being set in 1911, a third-numbered entry would likely have to be set before RDR2, which was set in the late 1890s, otherwise it could lose its Wild West identity.
In my humble opinion, I love the idea of playing as Red Harlow, the star of the linear 2004 game, Red Dead Revolver, which was set before both Redemption games in the 1880s.
“Should there be a Red Dead Redemption 3 or are you satisfied with what we got?” asked Redditor PatriotLife18.
“I’m 100% satisfied with both RDR and RDR2. But there should be a third game. It shouldn’t be a sequel or prequel, we don’t need that,” suggests TheMadMan007.
“It should start an anthology series, where the game takes place in the same fictional universe, but in a different location and follows a whole new set of characters and stories,” they continued.
“There should be a new RDR, not RDR3,” said RazkaTaz, alluding to a new tale.
“The game needs to take place around the mid-1800s when the cowboy era was at its peak,” replied Different_Class3188.
“I want to see a game about how to find Gavin,” demanded Patient-Assignment38. Like seriously, has anyone actually found Gavin, yet?
Both Red Dead Redemption games are available on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. While the original is available on Nintendo Switch.
