Red Dead Redemption fans are already debating who should be the next protagonist if a third game gets made.
It’s safe to say that John Marston and Arthur Morgan have had their stories concluded, so don’t expect to see them in Red Dead Redemption 3 unless it’s through a flashback or something similar.
Yes, it’s sad, but it gives us the chance to see a new protagonist take their place, as while many were opposed to Arthur taking over the lead role in Red Dead Redemption 2, he quickly became a fan-favourite.
Rockstar Games might not have any plans for a third game yet but fans sure do, and they’ve been brainstorming what kind of protagonist they’d like to see in the next game.
In a Reddit thread by sam_sepi0l_debug, one user said the next protagonist needs to be “no one we already met”.
They went on to write, “Preferably, the next Red Dead is an all new cast, but if they focus on the Van Der Linde gang again, my vote would be the mysterious ‘traitor’ they killed in camp years prior.”
Another fan seemingly agreed, stating, “It’s called Red Dead REDEMPTION and except Arthur and John, I don’t think there’s a lot of REDEMPTION in the Van Der Linde gang. So maybe someone new?”
That said, another idea was to do yet another prequel for the Van Der Linde gang that goes “up to the events of Blackwater” with a young Arthur Morgan as the lead.
The possibilities are endless, but I do agree that the next game should ideally give us a new cast of characters we’ve never seen before.
If the story does involve a young Arthur Morgan and the events that lead up to Red Dead Redemption 2, I wouldn’t be too torn up about it, but there would be some disappointment.
