Chris Evans will be returning to the MCU once again in Avengers: Doomsday, but it is yet to be seen which character he will be essaying.

Chris Evans has followed Robert Downey Jr. into Avengers: Doomsday. The actor will be returning to the franchise after his appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, where he essayed the role of Johnny Storm, his character from Fox’s first take on The Fantastic Four, which was a duology of films featuring Ioan Gruffud as Mister Fantastic and Jessica Alba as Susan Storm.

It is not known which character Chris Evans will be playing in Avengers: Doomsday. Speculations have run wild as to what the actor could be playing, ranging from reprising his role as Captain America or Johnny Storm, to playing a completely new character, like The Beyonder.
Chris Evans being The Beyonder has some precedent in Marvel Comics

The Beyonder, come to Secret Wars II, decided to descend to the Earth in a form eerily similar to that of Steve Rogers. Chris Evans could be essaying the role of The Beyonder, or working on a cameo when the character wants to take a human form.
This could be done when putting the likes of Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes at the center of the conflict, given that their personal connection to Steve Rogers could come in handy for the Beyonder, should he need to communicate with the heroes directly.
Alternatively, there are a slew of other characters that fans believe Chris Evans could be playing. He could make an appearance as Old Steve Rogers from the end of Avengers: Endgame or the character could be playing a character like Captain Hydra, or even a character completely unrelated to Captain America, as is the case with Robert Downey Jr. playing Doctor Doom. There are also rumors that Robert Downey Jr. may not be playing Doom after all and that it is just a cover to have him on set as Iron Man.

Given that Robert Downey Jr. is going to play Doctor Doom, Chris Evans could have been cast to play a similarly different character that does not have any connection with Captain America. The actor could play a mutant villain like Mister Sinister or could essay the role of other unrelated characters like Ares.
Marvel getting heavy hitters like Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. back for the Multiverse Saga could mean one of two things. Either Marvel Studios is not confident enough in their stories not to bring in star power to salvage what is left of the Multiverse Saga, or the studio has some banger stories in development that simply require some big cast members to pull off properly.
