Despite the ‘woke’ allegations, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has become the largest single-player game of Electronic Arts.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been recently released. This is going to be the fourth main entry in the fantasy action RPG series and a direct sequel to Dragon Age: Inquisition. Ten years after Inquisition, the game allows the player to explore new areas in the fictional world of Thedas.

Initially, the game faced huge criticism for being ‘woke,’ but that didn’t stop it from surpassing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. And this time, Electronic Arts have done some outstanding work to take the game to the summit amidst all the hate.

Since its release, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has surpassed the competition for 2023’s Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and topped the charts, making it EA’s largest single-player game ever on Steam.

With a peak of roughly 70,414 concurrents at the time of publication, Dragon Age: The Veilguard was just outside the top 10 most-played games on the platform and received largely positive reviews. It is ranked one place higher than Baldur’s Gate 3, which is still very popular because of mods and other new features. Jedi: Survivor was EA’s last high watermark, reaching an all-time high of 67,855.

With BioWare having “returned to its strengths,” and with Ubisoft’s decision to postpone Assassin’s Creed Shadows providing limited competition, EA CEO Andrew Wilson forecasted Dragon Age‘s success during Tuesday’s earnings call.

Considering that BioWare’s new RPG was released on a day when the majority of its fans were either at work or school, it’s a good start all around. As players fully immerse themselves in the first new Dragon Age release since 2014, it will be worthwhile to monitor its performance as it enters its first full weekend.

Strangers initially discovered Dragon Age: The Veilguard as a pretty, woke series and flooded the Steam discussion page. At least according to whatever criteria they were using to evaluate The Veilguard.

However, it appeared that they were simply realizing that there are queer and non-white people in Thedas, and they were not at all happy about it. Still, it ended up becoming EA’s biggest single-player title. So, what did actually change?

All those criticisms that the game was facing were basically superficial aspects of the game. But if we talk about the core aspect of the game, EA has done a fantastic job. The Veilguard has scrapped the idea of Denuvo DRM, just like the game it has beaten recently.

It’s a digital rights management system from an Austrian company called Denuvo Software Solutions GmbH that prevents unauthorized copying and distribution of the game and its DLCs. In simple words, it prevents people from messing around with in-game processes, which stops piracy. Also, the game is not “EA platform only.”
