To be fair, the fan-casting to replace Hamill is honestly spot-on
Mark Hamill recently discussed all things Luke Skywalker in a recent interview, and fans have already decided who exactly they want to replace him as a result.
During an interview with Esquire’s Brady Langmann, Hamill spoke candidly about his CGI face-swap in The Mandalorian and Luke Skywalker’s demise during the events of Disney’s Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi.
Also, just a random aside, give the interview a look just so you can see all of the photos Christian Högstedt took of Hamill chilling with his dogs and hitting silly poses. Wonderful stuff.
When Hamill was asked about his role (or, perhaps, his feature) in season two of The Mandalorian, he had this to say regarding Luke Skywalker’s future in the Star Wars franchise.
“It is unusual to see yourself like that… it can’t be cheap.”
He continued, “People say, ‘Oh, now you’re going to be able to do a whole series of Luke post-Return of the Jedi.’ I said, ‘I don’t think so.’ First of all, they don’t need to tell those stories, but if they do, they could get an age-appropriate actor.”
Star Wars will return to our screens next month with Skeleton Crew.
Hamill’s comments regarding recasting him is probably wonderful news to Star Wars fans who are looking to see a very specific actor take on the role.
In a Reddit thread discussing Hamill’s comments, almost everyone seemed to agree that there was only one person they want to see take on the role of Luke Skywalker: Sebastian “The Winter Soldier” Stan.
“Sebastian Stan please,” commented user Vox_Mortem, “Mark Hamill already gave his blessing, and they look so much alike.”
One thing fans can’t seem to agree on is whether or not they want to see Luke Skywalker pop up in future Star Wars TV shows and films at all.
“Can’t we just move on from the OT characters and get completely original characters in a totally different time period?” replied user slide_into_my_BM, a sentiment that several other commenters in the thread echoed.
Only time will tell what Disney plans to do with the character moving forward, but considering they already have a good working relationship with Sebastian Stan in the MCU… well, I personally think there’s a good chance we might see that casting for real somewhere down the line.
