A post from Star Wars promoting one of Lucasfilm’s panels at D23 may contain a subtle hint that The Acolyte season 2 could soon be confirmed. The panel being promoted will see Manny Jacinto, who played the Stranger, reflecting on the first season of The Acolyte.
While it may look rather innocuous, the post could be a big hint at one of Lucasfilm’s reveals a week before D23. The wording of Star Wars‘ post – that Jacinto will be looking back at the first season of The Acolyte – seems to imply that there will be a second season of the show. It’s currently just speculation, but Disney has been particular about the language it uses when referring to shows in the past, which may indicate this is indeed a hint. Obi-Wan Kenobi was confirmed to be a limited series by a Disney+ Blu-Ray collection, which specifically did not refer to it as a “first” season.
Will The Acolyte Season 2 Be Announced At D23?
Though the wording of Star Wars‘ post didn’t officially confirm The Acolyte season 2, and any discussion of it is rooted in speculation, it does seem like a major hint that Lucasfilm will renew it at D23. The wording of Star Wars‘ post was not accidental – the official announcement of Lucasfilm’s schedule for D23 also referred to Jacinto’s panel as a reflection on the first season of The Acolyte. That, combined with the viewership of The Acolyte and the hints Leslye Headland has made about The Acolyte season 2, seem to be enough to count as compelling evidence.
Beyond The Acolyte itself, Lucasfilm and Disney have already hinted that D23 could hold an announcement about The Acolyte. The very fact that Manny Jacinto will be speaking at a panel seems to imply there’s a reason for him to be there. The Stranger was one of the most popular characters in The Acolyte, and there are only a few reasons Star Wars would want such a prominent cast member at D23 instead of an executive or creator. The most likely seems to be so that Jacinto can make a major announcement – like a confirmation of The Acolyte season 2 – himself.
The chances of The Acolyte being renewed for a second season have never been better. The ending of The Acolyte season 1, while it wrapped up its story fairly well, also left quite a few doors open to explore in the future. After Darth Plagueis’ massive cameo, Vernestra Rwoh’s conspiracy, and Osha’s decision to go with the Stranger, it would have been a shame not to make a second season of the show. While it’s still not confirmed, Star Wars‘ recent post is an extremely promising sign that The Acolyte will get a chance to answer the questions it left open-ended.
