Star Wars’ New TV Show Is Officially The Best We’ve Seen In 2 Years, Bringing Hope To A Divided Fandom

It’s official: Star Wars’ newest TV show, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, is the best live-action series that the franchise has offered fans in the last two years. Following a group of four children – Wim, Neel, Fern, and KB – who get lost in the galaxy with no easy way back to their homeworld of At Attin, Skeleton Crew‘s cast and story have captured critics and audiences alike by heart. This is after a rather disappointing run of TV shows over the last two years, which have landed some of the franchise’s lowest scores and ratings.

On Rotten Tomatoes, at the time of writing, Skeleton Crew currently boasts a massively impressive 95% critics score, and an 84% audience score to match. This makes it the second highest-rated live-action Star Wars TV show by critics, with the number one spot being taken by Andor – though even that critically acclaimed series is only 1% higher than Skeleton Crew. In terms of audience score, the Star Wars fandom is notorious for judging more harshly than critics, which still makes 84% a very impressive number to hit – and proof that Skeleton Crew has brought hope back to its fans.

What Does Skeleton Crew’s Rotten Tomatoes Score Mean For Star Wars?

There’s Still Hope For The Star Wars Fandom Yet

The score for Skeleton Crew on Rotten Tomatoes, above all else, proves that Star Wars is still in a good place in the modern era. Many fans have become quite disappointed by what Star Wars has had to offer on TV in the last few years, insisting that nothing could come close to what Andor has achieved, which was only aggravated even more by the division over the last live-action TV show, The AcolyteSkeleton Crew, however, is already proving that there’s still good in the fandom, and still hope for what’s to come.

These scores reflect that mindset. Skeleton Crew has had next to no backlash, perhaps aside from its realistic suburban setting on At Attin, and is certainly a far cry from the reception The Acolyte received. Even with over a 10% gap between its critics and audience score, the latter sits at an above-average percentage for Star Wars fans, who tend to be more harsh with their ratings. The only Star Wars live-action TV show to sit above 90% is The Mandalorian seasons 1 and 2, which shows how well-received Skeleton Crew truly is.

Our Take On Skeleton Crew

It’s A Breath Of Fresh Air For The Franchise

These scores for Skeleton Crew are certainly high, much higher than we had been expecting going into this TV show, but it’s easy to understand why this is. Skeleton Crew is so different from what we’ve gotten from Star Wars lately, focusing more on developing its characters and the story than the lore surrounding it, and that’s exactly the kind of deviation the fandom really needs right now. Star Wars choosing to go in a brand-new direction with Skeleton Crew is quite literally saving the franchise at the moment, and hopefully, this will continue as the series goes on.
