In case you weren’t aware, Disney recently announced that Simon Kinberg will be heading up a new Star Wars trilogy, reportedly set after the events of Star Wars: Episode XI – The Rise of Skywalker.
A lot of people were not happy to hear this news, for a number of reasons.
Some folks are unhappy that the sequel trilogy will be made canon forever, others weren’t thrilled to learn that Simon Kinberg would be attached to the project given his track record, and then everyone else was mostly just annoyed with how Disney has handled the Star Wars franchise in general.
Well, now a new bunch of people can be mad – because sources over at The Hollywood Reporter have revealed that the new trilogy will focus on Rey.
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit, “Rey is set to play a role in several movies that are being developed, although which ones remains unclear”.
Kit’s source also stated that “she is the most valuable cinematic asset, in some ways maybe the only one, Star Wars has right now”.
Of course, as Kit also mentions, there is another “most valuable” Star Wars character that Disney currently has under their belts… but it seems that they’re waiting for theatrical debut before they feel comfortable banking on their success.
The Mandalorian & Grogu is set to come out sometime in 2026, and both of the titular characters have already proven that they’re popular with both new and old Star Wars fans.
It sounds like Disney want to keep banking on Rey for the time being however, at least until The Mandalorian & Grogu hits cinemas.
