The Star Wars series Skeleton Crew will feature a character with two moms as parents in its third episode, airing on Disney+ early next week.

When Disney released the first two episodes of its new Star Wars series Skeleton Crew on Disney+, many jaded Star Wars fans were pleasantly surprised. They got a middle of the road sensible kids show with decent acting, a good script, and an entertaining premise.

There were even endearing characters and insider references to the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special.

But what truly put it over the top for a lot of people was that the show’s story was void of identity politics.

There was no cringey social commentary or flawless vindictive girl power characters coming off like the ultimate hero. There were no morally gray girl bosses challenging the very well-defined line between good and evil established in Star Wars by George Lucas decades ago. It featured no deconstructed and disrespected legacy characters. And there were no universe shattering sweeping changes made to the show’s story that shattered the original lore.

Simply put, it wasn’t bad.

Star Wars Theory, one of the biggest Star Wars fan accounts on the planet, gave the show high praise.

“Skeleton Crew reminded me of myself as a kid to a T,” Theory wrote. It should be noted that Star Wars Theory has been extremely critical of modern Lucasfilm shows like Ahsoka and The Acolyte. “I dreamt of finding a spaceship to get lost in a distant galaxy and navigate the stars. Dreamt of becoming a Jedi, someday. Endless invisible lightsaber fights with my dad and friend. Pressures of school, being an outcast, feeling misunderstood, and overall just trying to navigate being a young boy with an appetite for adventure and ‘something more.’ So far, it’s Jumanji, Goonies, Zathura, and Harry Potter in a Star Wars universe. No complaints. Nostalgic af [sic] and made me remember being that age. Fun.”

Many wondered whether this show could actually maintain its apolitical stance and story quality throughout its run. Others wondered if perhaps there was finally a Star Wars show on Disney+ that could be suitable for children.

But, according to Chris Gore of Film Threat, the third episode of this children’s show will feature Pride values by revealing that one character has two moms.

“I agree, Skeleton Crew is a fun and solid Star Wars show for kids,” Gore said in a post on X responding to Star Wars Theory’s very positive review. “In episode three, you’ll meet the parents and learn one character has two moms. They just can’t help themselves, modern messaging must be inserted no matter what. I’d have preferred they kept the parents out of it altogether.”

This is far from the first time Disney has peddled Pride content to children. We’ve seen the company embrace Pride values in kids’ content for years, with movies like Strange Worlds and Lightyear, along with shows like Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, which actually had an episode pulled earlier this year.

Many assumed Disney was trying to moderate its content in an attempt to win back conservative families and its reputation as being the place to go for family-friendly content. And while it’s not clear yet how far the company will go to push agenda in Skeleton Crew, it seems as though Disney and Lucasfilm are still sticking to their guns when it comes to divisive social commentary in children’s programming.
