If you’re after a free sci-fi game to play on Steam right now, then you’re in the right place my fellow intergalactic explorer.

Being distracted from our worldly woes is always important and there’s no better distraction than being immersed in an open world that video games can offer. However, maintaining our hobby of playing video games can get very expensive indeed.

Subscription services such as PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass offer great avenues to play a plethora of video games in an instant, but they do come at a financial cost.

Thankfully, we do have fantastic free-to-play games such as Call of Duty: Warzone, Rocket League and Fortnite to name a few that cost nothing more than a platform and internet connection.

We can also play a variety of demos across PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch as well as some early access titles on the Steam platform such as the topic of today’s discussion, Preface: Undiscovered World.

“Preface is an immersive tech demo showcasing Melba, PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions’ groundbreaking technology generating an Earth-scale world. In this project still in development, experience our machine learning agents creating a planet in real-time, directly on your GPU,” reads the description of the game.

It’s perhaps worth keeping in mind that Preface: Undiscovered World currently has a “Mostly Negative” rating on Steam with one of its main issues related to performance and lack of activities, but there are some positive words by users.

“I can definitely see the potential,” said sharptooththedragon with Sub Rider adding “This is a great demo! But that’s all it is, a demo, not a game.”

Sharptooththedragon also suggested that if you’re put off by the lack of features, it might be worth checking out the demo later to see what progress has been made in the coming months.

That being said, expectations should be lowered going into this demo but hopefully, it will follow the example of other open-world sci-fi games such as No Man’s Sky and Starfield by being a much more worthwhile game than it had originally started out as.
