Per Screen Rant, Hoechlin commented on Superman & Lois ending its run while at a San Francisco Fan Expo panel. When discussing the possibility of returning in a potential spinoff, Hoechlin said he “would totally do animation,” as he won’t exactly miss the process of suiting up as Superman. As the actor added, “I don’t have to put the suit on for that, right? […] Sweatpants and a T-shirt sounds good to me.”
While Hoechlin would be happy to voice his incarnation of Clark in a Superman & Lois animated spinoff, the actor also appears to be quite happy with leaving things the way they are with Season 4, given the satisfying ending. With that said, he also pointed out that the multiverse will always leave the door open for some kind of return to the role one day in the future.
I think the fact that we got to come back to the fourth season to wrap up the story and really put a bow on it was a really nice opportunity that we got.
“I think the fact that we got to come back to the fourth season to wrap up the story and really put a bow on it was a really nice opportunity that we got,” Hoechlin said. “The great thing about the [superhero] genre and the multiverse [is that] there’s always opportunities. [But I’m] very content with what the writers put together for us in the fourth season.”
Why Is Superman & Lois Ending?
As for why Superman & Lois is ending with four seasons despite its popularity and acclaim, it has been suggested that this was at the request of Warner Bros. executives. Per TheWrap, The CW entertainment chief Brad Schwartz noted of the studio, “They don’t want a competing Superman product in the marketplace.” This refers to James Gunn’s unconnected Superman movie hitting theaters next summer.
