Disney’s most recent Star Wars project, The Acolyte recently ended, and despite all the controversies and review-bombing, the series was one of the most talked about shows online, and even now, after the first season is over, the fans are actively discussing the series and many theories related to its characters, which proves its enduring popularity, regardless of whether you like it or hate it.
And while the series definitely had its ups and downs, even the haters cannot deny that the series had some very interesting moments, especially in light of the references it made to other Star Wars storylines. We’ve already talked about Darth Plagueis, but we cannot go forward without actually discussing a very prominent and intriguing Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) reference from the series.
Namely, the final episode of the series reveals a very interesting moment in which Qimit and Osha wipe Mae’s memories, a situation that many fans identified as being a nod to probably the best Star Wars game of all time, as well as one of the best Star Wars stories of all time.
In case you’re not fully acquainted with what happened in the final episode of The Acolyte, we can say that there were a lot of twists and turns, as Qimir and Osha, who had since switched to the Dark Side, erased Mae’s memories in one of the more touching moments of the season. This was done voluntarily, though, as they wanted to stop the Jedi from finding out the Sith plans from Mae, which is why this happened.
While this is not an issue in itself, it is actually reminiscent of a very famous Star Wars storyline that was presented in the Knights of the Old Republic storyline, one of the best ones in the history of the franchise as a whole. Namely, in Knights of the Old Republic, we follow Revan as he evolves to become a Sith or a Jedi in the end. The game has consistently been praised for the execution of its story, as well as for Revan’s character development.
One of the major moments in the game is when it turns out that Revan was actually a powerful Sith Lord known as Darth Revan, but had his memories wiped by the Jedi, and the game even suggests that he had been brainwashed by the Force in order to become a Jedi once again. The memory wiping is a very interesting moment, and while we don’t know whether The Acolyte wanted to give a nod to Knights of the Old Republic, it certainly is a very interesting similarity that gives some additional pluses to the controversial series.
