The Acolyte, Disney’s most recent Star Wars project, has generated a lot of controversy since its debut due to a number of incidents and major review-bombing moments. This surpassed all the previous controversies related to any Star Wars project, but the series came to an end after eight episodes in total and until today, hopes of a second season did exist.
But, it was confirmed earlier today that The Acolyte had been canceled by Disney and that the series would not be getting a second season. This caused polarized reactions online, as the final episodes managed to redeem the show in a certain way, but it is a fact that has to be accepted as such, regardless of whether you were a fan or not.
On the other hand, what cannot be expected is a recent incident involving the series’ star, Amandla Stenberg, who is being harassed by toxic fans and bullies online over the cancelation of the series, and that is a pattern of inappropriate behavior that we cannot stand behind!
As we’ve said, The Acolyte has been canceled by Disney and we won’t be seeing a second season. Okay, that is more or less what everyone expected and we took it as a fact. There’s not much anyone can do anyway. But, while we are aware that a lot of fans were happy to hear this, expressing their joy over a show being axed is one thing, but what happened here is absolutely unacceptable:
These are just some of the comments under Amandla Stenberg’s latest Instagram post. Yet another black Star Wars actor getting harassed, and not a single word from Lucasfilm to denounce it.
Is this the audience you want to pander to? pic.twitter.com/q17Uvgu3r8

As you can see, a bunch of “fans” took to Amandla Stenberg’s social media profiles to mock her because the series got canceled. This is a very toxic and abusive behavioral pattern that should not be allowed to happen on the Internet. We don’t know how the young actress reacted to these messages, some of which are truly vulgar and just plain ugly, but we do hope that she will not be taking them seriously, as these are not messages of true Star Wars fans.
In the end, we’d just like to note that these people are not fans. They do not represent true Star Wars fans, and they do not represent anything worth supporting. Stenberg does not deserve such behavior and we can only condemn it completely, once again, and state our full support for the young actress. We wish her a successful career in the future!
