Other than Zendaya as Rue, Sweeney stars as Cassie, who has also earned an Emmy nomination for her performance and is set to return in Euphoria season 3, which begins filming in January 2025.

During a recent interview with PeopleSweeney teased Cassie’s return in Euphoria season 3 following a disastrous season 2. The star expressed excitement about returning to her character and as for what she would like to see in season 3, she says she enjoys exploring Cassie’s dark side, saying “the crazier, the better for me.” However, Sweeney admits she doesn’t know anything about Cassie’s future. I’m very excited to jump back into Cassie. She is definitely one of the most special characters for me and I love my Euphoria family, so I look forward to it. I love crazy Cassie, so the crazier, the better for me. Honestly, I don’t know anything about it.

During Euphoria season 2’s ending, Cassie has a dramatic and chaotic moment when she disrupts her sister Lexi’s play, which includes scenes drawn from Cassie’s own life. During this intense confrontation, Cassie embraces her darker side and essentially establishes herself as a major villain moving forward. The scene also marks the end of her tumultuous relationship with Nate, her best friend Maddy’s ex-boyfriend, confirming their breakup and further straining her relationships with those around her.

Though Sweeney doesn’t know anything about Cassie’s storyline in Euphoria season 3, she would like to continue exploring her character’s darker side, which was hinted at by season 2’s ending. However, season 3 likely won’t see Cassie at East Highland surrounded by her same group of friends. Multiple members of the cast and crew have confirmed that Euphoria season 3 will include a time jump, likely to when the characters are out of high school. During this time, it’s unclear what form Cassie’s dark side will take.

In season 3, audiences can expect to see Cassie’s storyline delve even deeper into her darker side, especially after her disastrous season 2 finale. After the anticipated time jump, Cassie should find herself in new and more complex situations that could further challenge her mental state and relationships. Given Sweeney’s enthusiasm for pushing Cassie’s boundaries, Euphoria season 3 might explore even more intense and unpredictable dynamics for her character, potentially cementing her as one of the show’s most compelling anti-heroes.
