“The Jewels Of The Old Republic”: What Are Star Wars’ New Treasure Planets?

Jod Na Nawood/Crimson Jack (Jude Law) stares at KB, edited over a map of the Jewels of the Old Republic map.Star Wars has yet again expanded its lore in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew by introducing the Jewels of the Old Republic, a new collection of old planets. Skeleton Crew has firmly rooted itself in the pirate world of the Star Wars galaxy, with its four main children – Wim, Neel, Fern, and KB – being from the long-lost planet of At Attin. After ending up at the pirate hub of Port Borgo, the kids learn there may actually be secret treasure on their homeworld.

This realization has only grown in importance into episode 3, which sees Jude Law’s character, Jod Na Nawood/Crimson Jack, establish a “partnership” with the children to get them all to At Attin together. At first, it seems as if Jod wants nothing more than to help the lost children, but the audience quickly learns that he’s a pirate himself who’s looking for the lost treasure. Apparently, however, At Attin wasn’t always the only source of secret treasure, as Skeleton Crew introduced an impressive array of lost treasure planets named the Jewels of the Old Republic.

What Happened To The Others?

The owl-like character named Kh’ymm reveals that At Attin is a part of the Jewels of the Old Republic, a group of “planets of wonder kept hidden for their protection.” She goes on to explain that all of these planets were destroyed a long time ago, aside from At Attin, which then became a part of children’s stories and other legends – including those shared by both pirates and fools. It’s unknown exactly what happened to those planets or why, but it seems as if there’s some heavy weight placed behind the fact that At Attin is now the sole survivor.

There Are A Few Theories Behind Their Destruction

There are several factors that could have led to the destruction of the other Jewels of the Republic, with the first being that someone had a mindset of “if I can’t have it, no one can” when it came to their treasure and just destroyed as many as they could. What may be more likely, however, is that there’s something more sinister going on with At Attin itself. This seems especially possible given how dodgy the Supervisor and their droids are on that world.

It could be that At Attin itself was behind the destruction of these worlds, perhaps wanting to preserve their own safety above others. It could even be that At Attin’s treasure is a culmination of the riches of all these planets, and that they hoarded it for themselves. This may explain why At Attin continues to keep itself hidden and doesn’t enlighten its inhabitants as to what’s happening in the surrounding galaxy. Of course, it could also simply be a case of these planets being destroyed by those seeking treasure over time, such as the eager pirates in Skeleton Crew.
