When the final episode of Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 came to a close, there were more questions than ever. Though the season just debuted on October 17, we understand if you’ve already breezed through all 10 episodes and come out the other side both satisfied by the way things turned out and frustrated that you’ll have to wait at least a year to dive into Mickey Haller’s (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) next case.
In the third season of the show, Julian La Cosse (Devon Graye) is accused of killing Gloria Dayton (Fiona Rene), aka Glory Days, a sex worker and former client turned friend of Haller. Except Julian swears he’s innocent. He worked with Glory Days, he insists, but he didn’t kill her. So who did? Mickey and his crew are determined to find out.
Then there’s that jaw-dropping ending that has us rooting for the show to return sooner rather than later. Let’s dive into what happened to Mickey at the end of the last episode of Season 3. But first, let’s look at who was really responsible for the death of Glory Days.
What Happened in Season 3?
While Julian stands trial for the murder of Glory Days, he claims he’s innocent and Mickey (eventually) believes him. Although Mickey and his team know Julian is telling the truth, they have to figure out who really did it. That someone clearly doesn’t want to be found, and Mickey has several dangerous encounters as someone tries to scare him off — including putting a rattlesnake in his bed, having a car ram his Lincoln, killing his driver, Eddie (Allyn Moriyon), and ultimately, having Julian attacked in jail.
In the end, it turns out that the culprit is James De Marco (Michael Irby), a corrupt Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent. He was working with the Juarez cartel from Tijuana, Mexico to bring down a rival cartel boss, Hector Moya (Arturo Del Puerto). When he realizes Glory has Hector as a client, he uses the dirt he has on her, specifically drug possession and prostitution, to get her to plant a gun on him that sends him to prison for life. Then De Marco cleaned up his mess by taking care of Glory too.
Mickey got this to be acknowledged by the court by having De Marco’s accomplice, an investigator for the District Attorney’s office, Neil Bishop (Holt McCallany), called to the stand. Bishop, who was tired of being under De Marco’s thumb, told the court everything he knew about what happened the night Glory was killed. Then he took out a gun he had hidden in his boot and shot himself. Julian is set free, as is Hector Moya, and De Marco is killed by the cartel.
What Happens in the Cliffhanger Ending?

At the end of Season 3, Episode 10, “The Gods of Guilt,” Mickey takes off from the dinner with his colleagues he had in celebration of Julian’s win. He is actually planning to go on vacation for once. But as he’s driving, he’s pulled over by a police officer. Mickey is mystified because he wasn’t speeding, but the cop takes him to the back of the car and shows him he’s missing his back license plate. Mickey tells him to give him a ticket for the missing plate, but as he’s walking away, the cop spots blood coming from his car.
Though the police officer demands that he open the trunk, Mickey knows his rights and refuses. However, the cop isn’t so easily dissuaded. He places Mickey under arrest, cuffs him, and opens the truck himself. Inside is the body of Sam Scales (Christopher Thornton).
Sam Scales was a client of Mickey’s. He’s been in all three seasons of the show as Mickey and then his colleague Lorna (Becki Newton) have helped him out of jams. He isn’t exactly beloved by either of them, especially because he habitually didn’t pay them. But that doesn’t mean that Mickey killed him. In fact, given the way the whole thing was set up — between the lack of a back license plate and the blood dripping from his car — it seems someone is using Mickey as a patsy. It’s just a matter of who. There are probably many people who would like to see Sam dead and probably just as many who would like to see Mickey behind bars.
Is There a Season 4 of The Lincoln Lawyer In the Works?

While Netflix hasn’t given us any word on whether the beloved legal drama will come back for a fourth season, it’s safe to say that the demand is probably there. And the next season is set to be the most personal yet for Mickey and his team. That should be a great incentive for Netflix to renew the show.
Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, who plays Mickey, told Today about his character’s reaction to what’s in his trunk during the Season 3 ending, “When he sees what’s inside and who is inside, in that second, he knows his whole life is crumbling.” The actor also claims “there’s a lot of names that cross his mind” about who might have really killed Sam. For the audience, he says, “It’s such a good end of the season. It leaves you like, ‘Oh my god!'” Hopefully, The Lincoln Lawyer gets a fourth season, and we can get to the bottom of who killed Sam and who set up Mickey.
