It has been a pretty big year for fans of The Lord of the Rings, with several new projects to keep us in Middle-Earth.
We’ve had a second season of The Rings of Power from Amazon and MGM – and we’ll soon have the Peter Jackson-led The War of the Rohirrim, an animated spin-off.
We’ll soon have another project to look forward to in the prequel film The Hunt for Gollum, being directed by Gollum himself, Andy Serkis.
As this film comes between the events of The Hobbit trilogy and The Lord of the Rings trilogy, many cast members are returning.
Though one actor, John Rhys-Davies, has some understandable conditions for his return as the dwarf Gimli.
Talking to Collider recently, Rhys-Davis commented on whether he’d make a return to Middle-Earth.
The actor chose not to reprise his role for The Hobbit trilogy, but could be tempted back.
In the interview he said, “Well, I’m known to not want to put that prosthetic on again, but out of deference to Andy, whom I love and admire and again who has grown so much, if they invited me…oh god, could I dare to put on that make-up again?”
His one condition to return could be CGI, which works wonders on transformations of actors nowadays.
He continued in saying, “Maybe with CGI … Times have moved on and technology has moved on, if I don’t have to spend eight hours a day for three years of my life in a make-up chair, I might indeed do it.”
Rhys-Davies could help to round out the, hopefully, returning members from other films which currently includes Elijah Wood as Frodo, Ian McKellen as Gandalf, and Orlando Bloom as Legolas.
While news on the film is thin, we anticipate more will come next year with official casting news as the crew moves towards production.
