Colin Farrell’s The Penguin could overturn one major death that could justify making a second season of the DC series.

The Penguin reached its inevitable conclusion with the eighth episode concluding the first season’s overarching narrative. The episode follows Oswald “Oz” Cobb’s rise to becoming the King of Gotham, as he cements his place at the top of the criminal underworld. However, in the process, Oz is forced to kill one of his allies in the most gruesome fashion.

While a second season of The Batman spin-off series isn’t confirmed yet, it could explore one interesting conflict stemming from the major death in the season 1 finale. The death of one of Penguin’s closest allies might not be permanent and can be undone to tell an exciting story. Here is how The Penguin‘s season 2 might overturn a major death and why.
Major Death in The Penguin Episode 8 Could Give Colin Farrell’s Oz a New Enemy in Season 2
The Penguin follows the journey of Oswald “Oz” Cobb, as he rises to the pinnacle of the Gotham criminal underworld. During the season 1 finale, Oz manages to defeat most of his opponents, including Sofia Gigante, and establishes himself as the King of Gotham.

However, Oz’s brutality and ruthlessness in his pursuit for power reach its peak when the mob boss kills Victor “Vic” Aguilar, played by Rhenzy Feliz. In the finale, Oz realizes that his most trusted ally Vic is becoming a weakness. Oz treats Vic like a family member and finds himself vulnerable in his sidekick’s presence.
As a result, Oz kills Vic to remove his one weakness. Several aspects of Vic’s character arc draw parallels to the comic book storyline of Jason Todd, the second character to take on the mantle of Robin. Like Todd, Vic is caught while trying to steal car parts and later becomes the sidekick to its owner. Both characters are orphans who meet a grim fate.
However, Todd eventually returns as the vigilante Red Hood, who is driven by vengeance. Given the similarities between the two characters, it is likely that Vic’s death in the season 1 finale might not be permanent. Instead, Vic could be brought back as a major opponent for the Penguin in the second season, mirroring Todd’s transformation into the Red Hood.
Colin Farrell’s The Penguin Season 2 Remains a Possibility
The Penguin serves as a bridge between the first and second installments of the films, directed by Matt Reeves. Colin Farrell reprises his role as the Penguin from the first installment in the series, which is expected to be a miniseries. However, the possibility of a second season has been discussed.

During an interview, showrunner Lauren LeFranc admitted that she would be interested in continuing the story in a potential second installment. However, LeFranc only wanted to work on a second season if the first season could be topped. Similarly, Farrell was initially skeptical about returning for season 2 but has since warmed up to the idea.
If there’s a great idea [for season two], and the writing was really muscular and as strong or stronger on the page than it was the first season, of course I would do it.
Farrell made the above statement to The Hollywood Reporter, suggesting he would be open to returning for a sophomore outing, provided there was a good concept for it.
Given LeFranc and Farrell’s comments, it is safe to assume that a second season could happen if there was a great idea in the pipeline. The return of Vic as a Red Hood-like figure in the second season to exact revenge on the Penguin could make for a great storyline with a very grounded conflict like season 1.
The Penguin is streaming on Max.
