Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Milioti described the moment when she found out she had been nominated for a Golden Globe. “It was very exciting, very exciting,” the actress exclaimed. “And just very, very joyful. My God, the women in my category. I don’t have words to describe how surreal it is and how overwhelmed I am being nominated alongside them. They’re all so brilliant.”

Milioti was nominated for best performance by a female actor in a limited series, anthology series or a motion picture made for television for her role as Gotham crime heiress Sofia Falcone. Also nominated in the category were Cate Blanchett for Disclaimer, Jodie Foster for True Detective: Night Country, Kate Winslet for The Regime, Naomi Watts for Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans, and Sofia Vergara for Griselda.

The Max limited series is a spin-off of Matt Reeves’ The Batman starring Robert Pattinson as The Caped Crusader. The Penguin follows Oz’s rise to power in Gotham’s criminal underworld, which includes the dethroning of the Falcone and Maroni crime families. The series, as well as the film, have been celebrated for their storytelling, atmosphere, and soundtrack. Also part of this new, burgeoning Batman universe are The Batman: Part II –which is in the midst of production but has been repeatedly delayed – as well as a trilogy film. According to Matt Reeves, there may also be other spin-off series in development – which he would like to direct.
