The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power became a popular series on Amazon, regardless of what many fans think of it. The show has, as we have repeatedly reported, been renewed for a second season, which will debut with eight episodes in just a few days, on August 29, 2024. It will be intriguing to see how everything plays out, especially in light of the showrunners’ recent announcements, which we have reported on.
The upcoming premiere is sure to be one of the summer’s biggest events and, as one might anticipate, conversation about the upcoming season has already begun, and what excites us about it is what’s going to be new in the season in terms of the characters.
We have already reported how Season 2 is going to focus on the villains, and how Sauron will finally have a major role in the series, which had a lot of fans excited. At the same time, the cast members have finally revealed some new details about Sauron and his role in Season 2, which we are happy to share with you.
In a recent GQ interview with the cast and crew members, some of the cast members revealed more details about Sauron and what we can expect from him in the second season. One of them was Charlie Wickers, who portrays the character in the series, and here is what he said:
“Tolkien once wrote of a moment where Sauron was brought low and had to repent, and that’s where we find him at the beginning of season two. He gets to this teetering point where he’s like ‘I could take another path.’ I don’t know whether it’s genuine or not, but I like the ambiguity of it.”

“We had strict movement rules. Elves don’t look down, apparently. They just know where they are going at all times. They don’t look down even when they’re going downstairs, which is impossible when you’re wearing robes that hit the floor!”
Charles Edwards, who will play the Elf Celebrimbor in the second season of the series, also had something to add, seeing how Sauron will have a grand influence on Celebrimbor in Season 2 of the show:
“Sauron says everything to appeal to the chinks in Celebrimbor’s psyche. He is susceptible to vanity, to flattery, to vulnerability.”
As you can see, this is certainly going to be an interesting character dynamic and we are looking forward to seeing what the writers and cast members have in store for us in the second season of the show.
