Despite the negative opinions of many fans, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power became a popular series on Amazon. As we have stated on numerous occasions, the show has been revived for a second season, which will premiere with three episodes on August 29, 2024, which is later today. Yes, the eagerly anticipated second season is finally here, and in that regard, we have some very exciting news to share with you.
If you’ve been following us, you will already know that we’ve reported on the series receiving a Certified Fresh rating, with critics praising a (substantial) improvement over Season 1. On top of that, the showrunners and cast members had been teasing us with a much better season, and it seems they have finally delivered.
Ahead of the premiere, co-showrunner Patrick McKay and executive producer Lindsey Weber have revealed more information about the upcoming season, and they are teasing something much “mistier and darker,” which is what the fans will definitely like!
In a big interview for The Wrap, McKay and Weber discussed the upcoming season of The Rings of Power, revealing that we are, indeed, in for something very different. The whole interview was much longer, but in this report, we are going to reveal what the two of them said about the season’s tone. Weber teased the following:
“When we were launching Season 1, we were about a month from starting Season 2 and it was all very much happening at the same time. We found lots of opportunities along the way, things evolve, our amazing contributors make suggestions that we think are fantastic, but I think the story has very much the same intention that these guys originally envisioned.“

As for McKay, he was more precise in his comments, confirming once again that the season will be centered on the villains and that Sauron will have a major role to play:
“It’s Sauron’s season, it’s a season that’s dominated by villains, a battle between two villains in Adar and Sauron,” he said. “I think the environment and the weather has also seeped in and very much harmonizes with that darkness. I think people will feel, not in any specific moment but in the collective over the course of the season, it is decidedly more mysterious, mistier and darker.“

And that is, more or less, what we wanted to say in this report. The Rings of Power Season 2 premieres today with three episodes, and will continue airing on a weekly basis like all of Amazon’s shows. Based on everything, we’re in for an exciting season and we hope that the series delivers upon its promises.
