However, Screen Rant recently broke down what Sauron actor Charlie Vickers thought the dark lord was thinking and why he did not kill Galadriel.

“I think it’s because he wants to have this conversation with her. Maybe there’s a part of him which still thinks and says, ‘The door is still open.’ There’s a part of him which still thinks he can still get her, and I think that’s the big difference between where we end this season and where we ended the first season,” Vickers said of his character.

Sauron Knows There is No Hope

Ultimately, after a long battle, Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), after being stabbed by Sauron, flings herself off a cliff to prevent Sauron from possessing her ring, called Nenya.

“I think after this confrontation, he knows that there’s no hope. She’s resisted him again, and he will have some conflict with her again in the future, but there’s no chance of her joining him, and he’s almost taunting her, in a way, and wanting to punish her for, like, ‘Look what I’ve become. This could have been you had you joined me in the first place,’” Vickers said.

In Season 1 of The Rings of Power, Sauron manipulated Galadriel into thinking he was a human named Halbrand.

Vickers continued, “So, there is this element of him which wants to make her feel bad and take revenge, almost, for her not listening to him.”

Galadriel Has Her Day

Galadriel, whose role had been somewhat smaller this season, had a chance to shine in the season finale. First, meeting Adar after the battle of Eregion and then, the confrontation between herself and Sauron. Galadriel fights Sauron with all she has – body and mind – and in the end shows that light really can overcome darkness.

The Rings of Power expands on the character of Galadriel further than in the movies, going back many years before the time of Frodo and Sam.

Galadriel’s Future?

While a Season 3 of The Rings of Power hasn’t been confirmed, there is a question remaining as to how Galadriel will be portrayed in the future. In Peter Jackson’s The Fellowship of the Ring, one scene showed Galadriel and Frodo in Lothlorien with Galadriel considering accepting the One Ring. At that point, she was changed into a dark form, which some fans were not pleased with.

In J.R.R. Tolkien’s books, it is suggested that the scene with Galadriel and Frodo may be just in Frodo’s mind, as if the Ring showed him a vision of the future if Galadriel were to take it.
