In addition to that, Reginald and his wife are alive and well in this timeline, Reginald is the most powerful man, Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) has her daughter and her 1960s husband, and Sloane is missing. The first trailer for The Umbrella Academy season 4 showed that the Hargreeves have spent some time apart and have done their best to carry on with their lives the best way they could, but it won’t be long until they get their powers back – but in the meantime, season 4 will confirm a sad reality about Luther.
Luther Still Can’t Seem To Find His Identity & Purpose In The Umbrella Academy Season 4
Luther Is Mirroring What He Did In Season 2
In season 2, Luther took advantage of his ape torso and super strength and started working for gangster Jack Ruby as his bodyguard and as an underground boxing fighter.
Season 4 isn’t the first time the Hargreeves have attempted to move on with their lives since The Umbrella Academy began. Of course, before the events of season 1, they all lived separate lives, with Luther being the only one who continued working for Reginald, but in season 2 they were scattered through the 1960s in Dallas, Texas, forcing them to move on by themselves. Back then, Luther took advantage of his ape torso and super strength and started working for gangster Jack Ruby as his bodyguard and as an underground boxing fighter.
This points to Luther still not finding his purpose and identity in The Umbrella Academy and holding on to the past to carry on with his life by himself. The rest of the Hargreeves are shown moving on in different ways – Allison retaking her career as an actress, Diego being a father, Viktor working at a bar, Five continuing his research, Sparrow Ben getting out of jail, and Klaus seems to be in some kind of trouble –, but Luther, once more, seems to be the one who is the most lost and can’t seem to find his place without his powers, Reginald, and his siblings.
Sloane Might Be A Problem For Luther’s Development In The Umbrella Academy
Sloane Might Not Be As Good For Luther As Thought
The answer to what happened to Sloane at the end of The Umbrella Academy season 3 and her reunion with Luther are some of the most anticipated moments in season 4, but Sloane might be doing more harm than good to him. Luther went through some needed character development in season 3 in large part thanks to Sloane, but seeing how he’s back to being lost in season 4 and Sloane isn’t with him, The Umbrella Academy risks making Sloane Luther’s whole personality and only “purpose”.
Surely, season 4 could give Luther the final push he needs in his character development to finally find his place, purpose, and identity and get his happy ending, as well, but it’s a tricky challenge as The Umbrella Academy’s final season will also be the show’s shortest with just six episodes.
