The Witcher 4 teaser confirms what happened to Geralt after The Wild Hunt

I still can’t quite believe it. The Witcher IV is coming, and we got our very first look at the new RPG in an incredible trailer during The Game Awards. Every time I close my eyes I can see that trailer.

Fans of The Witcher won’t have been surprised to see that The Witcher IV is delivering on the promise shown at the end of The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt‘s good ending: Ciri is now a fully fledged Witcher, and she’ll be our hero for the new game.

This is, of course, brilliant. But it’s okay to ask: where is Geralt? Is he alright? Has he finally retired and kicked back in a vineyard in Toussaint? Or did he get his head bitten off by a Drowner?

Worry not, because it has been confirmed that Geralt is alive and well, and will indeed be in The Witcher IV. Better still, he’s once again being voiced by the inimitable Doug Cockle.

Fans probably already picked up on the fact the gravelly voice at the end of The Witcher IV trailer was Geralt’s. “Time for a new saga,” he proclaims. “See you on the path.”

CD Projekt RED joint-CEO Michal Nowakowski took to Twitter after the trailer aired to confirm beyond any doubt that it was Geralt we heard, adding that “he’s still there.”

That implies to me Geralt is very much still alive, unless his ghostly ass is hanging around to play Gwent with Ciri or something. Probably not, though.

How big a role Geralt plays in The Witcher IV remains to be seen. This is, after all, Ciri’s turn in the spotlight, so keeping him relegated to supporting player seems the best bet.

I should stress though, if anything untoward happens to The White Wolf over the course of the game, I will flip tables and scream until I poop myself. You have been warned, CD Projekt RED.
