Honor Among Thieves 2 can properly explore even more of the magic system, backstories, and even the gods of the Dungeons & Dragons universe. That being said, the franchise does not have to be limited to the classical system. Several spinoff systems have arisen in intervening years, featuring new genres and mechanics that build on the original. One particular spinoff is both tightly tied to that system and has enough of its own unique features to make a great Dungeons & Dragons movie to add to the franchise: Curse of Strahd.
Curse Of Strahd Would Make A Great Dungeons & Dragons Movie
Curse Of Strahd Is A Horror Spinoff Set In The D&D Universe

Barovia’s foggy forests hide several creatures, such as Night Hags, and the potential for psychological horrors to afflict the party. Though the game does allow for some customization, Curse Of Strahd is a largely set adventure. That adventure ultimately culminates in a hunt within Castle Ravenloft for the iconic Strahd von Zarovich, the vampire wizard whose curse has doomed Barovia for centuries. The Gothic horror system is both a well-done tabletop and has the potential to be a great movie that could add to Honor Among Thieves’ strengths if Honor Among Thieves 2 is not released.
A Curse Of Strahd Movie Would Only Add To Honor Among Thieves’ Strengths
Curse Of Strahd Adds Horror Elements And Retains The Adventure Aspects Of D&D

Despite being more of a horror system, a Curse Of Strahd film would only add to Honor Among Thieves‘s strengths as it still retains a classic D&D adventuring style. Much like with Szass Tam in Honor Among Thieves, the party in a Curse Of Strahd film would need to surmount several challenges along the way before they get to Strahd. This would allow the film to build on Honor Among Thieves’ strong character dynamics and action scenes while giving the film its own unique twists.

Curse Of Strahd, as a horror module, is able to play with themes and tensions that Honor Among Thieves could not. The film had some horror-like moments, such as the scene in the graveyard, but it was largely played for comedy. Curse Of Strahd could keep those comedic beats while also creating fulfilling horror, adding more to the franchise. Having that new angle could be the answer Paramount’s Dungeons & Dragons franchise needs as the possibility for Honor Among Thieves 2 slips further and further away.
A New Angle Could Save Paramount’s Dungeons & Dragons Franchise
Tilting Into The Horror Angle Could Bring New Audiences To The Franchise

Adding in a new angle could save Paramount’s Dungeons & Dragons franchise after one of its main upcoming projects was abruptly canceled. Paramount’s cancelation of its planned Dungeons & Dragons-themed series hurt the chances of the franchise’s return. With Honor Among Thieves 2 becoming more unlikely, it is clear that Paramount’s Dungeons & Dragons universe is in need of a fresh take. A Curse Of Strahd film could be the new angle the franchise needs as it is likely to attract both audiences who love the tabletop as well as those who love the horror genre.
The Paramount Dungeons & Dragons franchise could be saved through this, allowing new audiences to discover the joys of these systems and perhaps even allowing Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves 2 a chance to be released.
With this new approach, Paramount’s franchise could keep its already established audience base through another adventure story with rich world-building and fun dynamics between the characters. Simultaneously, horror audiences could appreciate all the jump scares, creatures, and psychological challenges the party faces as they lean into those established tropes from the genre. The Paramount Dungeons & Dragons franchise could be saved through this, allowing new audiences to discover the joys of these systems and perhaps even allowing Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves 2 a chance to be released.
