Agatha All Along, just like The Acolyte, has managed to turn fans against the franchise even more, despite Disney taking steps to make things right

Agatha All Along seems to have stumbled face first into the ground right out of the gates, as fans are fed up with Marvel’s, and by extension Disney’s, bid to use representation as a gimmick, rather than prioritizing a good story with nuanced characters. Fans are so done with what Disney has to offer that even audiences that enjoyed The Acolyte are having a very tough time getting through Agatha All Along.

The Katheryn Hahn-starer is expected to be a part of a trilogy of shows, which started with WandaVision and is expected to end with the show focusing on Paul Bettany’s Vision. However, Agatha All Along has not only failed to wow fans but has also managed to alienate audiences which is reminiscent of what has happened in the Star Wars fandom.

Despite the rave reviews that were poured in WandaVision, which blew the Marvel Universe wide open by expanding the franchise into streaming, Marvel Studios seems to have failed to follow up on the success of the IP. Agatha All Along has managed to alienate the very audience that it tried to cater to, which can be assumed to have a major overlap with those who enjoyed The Acolyte.
I’m just sick of it.
I don’t even care if characters are queer. It’s when it’s so obviously forced to check a box.
If a character naturally fits into a category, awesome, but this is all so obviously forced.

Disney keeps trying to outgay their previous shows or movies. Enough

Why does it matter if it’s gay? Why can’t it just be a good story?
— Zorro Muerto (@ZorroMuert0) September 17, 2024
I think I speak for most MCU fans when I say we don’t care if the characters are gay or not. We care about the characters and the stories around them being interesting enough.
If Marvel wants to continue losing money on products, keep this up.

There was a significant backlash when it came to The Acolyte, which caused almost the entirety of the Star Wars fandom to abandon the show and the IP. A similar story seems to be unfolding in the Marvel fandom, as fans wonder where Disney is going with the kind of stories that it is relegating to the small screen. Agatha All Along, starring Katheryn Hahn, still has a lot of episodes to air, but the consensus of the first four entries in the series has largely relegated it to being the lowest offerings of its franchise.
Is 2025 going to be a good year for Marvel Studios?

2024 was the year in which Marvel tried to keep its films and shows to a minimum. Only releasing Echo, Agatha All Along, and Deadpool & Wolverine, this more cautious approach can be attributed to Disney’s wider initiative of focusing on quality over quantity. 2025, will see at least 2 big releases from Marvel, in the form of Captain America: Brave New World and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Marvel is also expected to release Daredevil: Born Again in March, Blade, though the latter might seem unlikely given all the behind-the-scenes drama.
2025 could be a blockbuster year for Marvel, which would be necessary for the franchise to restore the faith that fans have lost over the last few years. While Deadpool & Wolverine would have earned the franchise a lot of bandwidth with the fans, shows like Agatha All Along will only go towards hurting the image that the franchise painstakingly constructed over the last fifteen years or so.
Agatha All Along can now be streamed on Disney+
