While Wednesday makes several changes from the franchise, Wednesday is still funny, bitter, and sarcastic… but the Netflix series doesn’t have the same biting sense of humor that the beloved movies from the 1990s do.
Wednesday season 2 should include more of the offbeat, memorable, and unique jokes and storylines that The Addams Family and Addams Family Values have.
How Can Wednesday Season 2 Feature Addams Family Humor?
While Nevermore Academy’s supernatural setting might make it challenging, Wednesday season 2 can spotlight the quirky humor of the Addams Family in a few different ways. If Wednesday and roommate Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers) have more scenes together, which they should since Enid needs more development, Wednesday should share more of her family life with Enid.
If Wednesday shared funny and scary family stories with Enid, this would also show the unforgettable dynamic between the two characters since Enid would be horrified. Wednesday could also invite Enid to visit at Thanksgiving or Christmas and make it clear that she didn’t grow up in a regular family unit. This would work since it would Nevermore and the Addams Family members separate.
Wednesday’s family should also visit Nevermore more frequently in Wednesday season 2, which would create the opportunity for some quirky and funny scenes. Gomez (Luis Guzmán), Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), and Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) have such unique personalities and a strange way of seeing the world. Morticia could give the teachers advice on what wisdom to impart to the students and Pugsley could bond with some of the students. Since Wednesday season 2 shouldn’t include YA tropes, this would also be a way to focus on the characters who viewers care about. Wednesday would be embarrassed by her family while also secretly loving all the trouble that they’re causing.
Wednesday season 2 can also showcase the Addams Family humor by having an episode where everyone celebrates Halloween. Wednesday could bring some of her eerie family traditions to Nevermore and get in trouble because her ideas are too dark and dangerous. Since she has a history of celebrating Halloween in her own way, this storyline would feel true to her character. It would fix a few issues from the first season by including more of Wednesday’s relatives and making Wednesday season 2 more terrifying. It would also ensure that that the series has the memorable tone of the Addams Family franchise. While season 1 was popular, several fans were disappointed that it didn’t feel like the Addams Family they know and love.
What Are Some Of Wednesday’s Funniest Addams Family Jokes And Scenes?
While Wednesday has some Addams Family Easter Eggs and Gomez and Morticia are still as romantic as ever, it doesn’t often feel like it has much in common with the franchise. There are many hilarious jokes and scenes from the Addams Family that fans like looking back on. In one scene from Addams Family Values, Wednesday (Christina Ricci) terrorizes three nannies and makes a puppet. While fans could guess that she wouldn’t agree to a nanny easily, Wednesday proves that she isn’t a child who anyone who would want to work for, which is of course why fans love her so much. She says:
“Hello Polly, I’ll clean my room. In exchange for your immortal soul.”
Wednesday also makes a great joke in Addams Family Values when she tells campers a scary story and says:
“And so, the next night, the ghost returned to the haunted cabin. And he said to the campers, ‘None of you really believe in me, so I’ll have to prove my power.’ And the next morning, when the campers woke up, all of their old noses had grown back.”
In both these scenes, Wednesday takes things one step further with her dark sense of humor. While telling a story around a campfire or in the woods is of course a common activity, the Addams Family always makes extreme and dark statements. This sets them apart from other movie and TV families.
Fans also remember when Wednesday picks her Halloween costume in the first movie, The Addams Family, and says, “This is my costume. I’m a homicidal maniac, they look just like everyone else.” She also asks about whether there are “real Girl Scouts” in the Girl Scout cookies.
